Is it possible to replicate KFC in an air fryer. Well, what I did was look up the 11 "secret" herbs and spices that goes into Kentucky Fried Chicken and mixed them together with 2 cups of flour. After marinating my chicken thighs in a cup of buttermilk mixed with an egg, I ran the thighs through the mixture and cooked them in the air fryer. You can see my opinion of how close it came to KFC but I also double checked it with others a couple of days later to get their opinions as well.
RECIPE:
3 tbs white pepper
2/3 tbs salt
2 tbs garlic salt
1 tbs celery salt
1/2 tbs ground thyme
1/3 tbs oregano
1 tbs black pepper
1 tbs dry mustard
3 tbs paprika (or 4 tbs for a bit spicier)
1 tbs ground ginger
1/2 tbs basil
Mix with 2 cups all-purpose flour.
Marinate 4 chicken thighs overnight in 1/2 cup buttermilk with egg beaten in.
After running the chicken through the powder mix, spray with olive oil on both sides.
Cook in Air fryer for 30 minutes at 380 degrees and turn when halfway finished.
(Note: Using a spray bottle to apply olive oil will have a much better effect on surface texture than applying by spoon.)
“Why not just go to KFC?”
Don’t have a KFC anymore. Nearest one is twenty miles away.
KFC is very expensive.
It’s a crapshoot. Sometimes the chicken is fresh, sometimes not.
They push all their “sides”. Hard to price or order “chicken only”.
We LOVE KFC (original recipe).
We WILL be definitely be trying this!
I just couldn’t tell if the chicken was cooked or not so I keep them in. I think I overcooked them by 5 minutes, which is a lot.
Be sure to add some MSG! KFC has lots of it.
I can see it is a lot cleaner, safer, and economic than a deep fryer. I think we will have fun with this.
My family now eats about 2.5lbs of meats a night.
5 minutes in an air fryer is a huge amount of time my fryer is programmed for 25 minutes on the French fry button the fries are PERFECT in 8 minutes!! Air fryers cook really fast!! I would get a small meat thermometer and test the chicken for doneness every so often, once you get the time down you are off and running!!
no
I always HATED trying to dispose of oil after frying, used to put it in coffee can NOW there are no coffee cans this is the BEST appliance I have ever purchased I LOVE IT!! I love egg rolls the frozen egg rolls are AWSOME in the air fryer if I just want a snack I throw a couple in there no muss no fuss!!
Yup! I was supposed to get it on Thursday but since it arrived at the store late for pickup I got it the next day instead of using it on Thursday as I originally planned. The new air fryer is also a Bello Pro but it is 1.8 quarts bigger plus it is touch screen digital. The analog air fryer the markings soon wore off so the temps and time were just guestimates. Anyway the new air fryer is the THIRD one I've gotten since late June. I have become HOOKED on air frying due to ease of use, taste, and how easy they are to clean.
What brand? The Bella Pro 6 qt touch screen air fryer I just bought was on sale. Normal price $99 at Best Buy but Labor Day sale discounted down to $59.
Spread a layer of root vegetables on a sheet pan, put your seasoned spatchcocked chicken right on top of the veggies (skin side up, obviously) and roast it all in the oven.
I haven’t spatchcocked a chicken in quite a while. My right hand is usually too numb to squeeze the scissors. So I’m making that dish either today or tomorrow and will just put a whole chicken on it.
I air fried 6 Russet potatoes yesterday straight from the fresh potato. Cut them up then washed them then soaked in hot water for 10 minutes. Then added avocado oil and air fried for 10 minutes. Then removed, added another tbs of avocado oil and salt and then cooked in a couple more cycles for 5 minute periods until done.
Chicken thighs should be 380 degrees for 30 minutes and turn at the halfway point.
As an aside, my sister worked at a KFC as a teenager. She came home covered with grease and a chicken smell she just couldn’t get rid of, no matter how often she showered and washed her hair. :)

That’s bad, but it could’ve been worse. My little brother once worked at a Long John Silver‘s.
Talk about grease!
Mmmmmmm. Air Fryer!
Thanks for posting. We’ll give it a try.
I swear, I eat more fried food with an air fryer, now, than I ever did before. I got it, thinking I was cutting down on greasy foods. It’s an enabler!
I bought a Oster Air Fryer, it was $99, not on sale. That is all I can tell from the box. Looks like a larger toaster over. Seems like 6 quarters.
THANK YOU!
Am definitely trying this one.
First of all the potatoes are absolutely FRESH. And on top of that, more cost effective than frozen french fries.
My eyes are going bad. After first glance I read:
After marinating my children’s thighs...
