Is This Proposal a Viable Plan To Neuter The GOP in Congress In 2022?

Posted on 08/23/2021 9:45:08 AM PDT by Be Careful

This plan is predicated on the assumption that the GOP will win back a majority in one or both chambers in 2022......I am curious to hear thoughtful comments .......Plan: If the GOP wins a majority in one or both chambers, then I think that our America First representatives, having run as GOP candidates, should, en masse, re-register as Independents, enough to deprive McCarthy and/or McConnell of the gavel and make it known that the "America First Independent Caucus" holds all the power of the vote.

I am hoping that bigger brains than mine may be able to figure out how we can withhold power from McCarthy and McConnell using at least a portion of this proposal.....Thoughts, anyone?

Your “America First Independent Caucus” would then give all the power of the vote back to the Democrats since they could align with the GOP. That would be the only way anything could pass.

Oh stop it. If a Republican majority is elected, the only way they can accomplish anything is to stick together and force through legislation we support. To divide the caucus is to hand power back to the Democrats.

I keep running scenarios on this.....and actually, if the GOP picks up the House, this “Independent Caucus” can deprive the GOP of the majority, thereby leaving the Dems in control of the House.....but not really....as the Dems would not have the votes to carry out their agenda...this could be really interesting to drill down on. It would take A LOT of COURAGE....

Remember that committee seats are assigned by party membership of congress. This would result in a split GOP and a unified DEM party. You could very likely see a strange split. Say 45% Dem, 30% GOP, and 25% Independent.

Not sure if it would be beneficial or not.

It starts Jan. 1. first primary is March 1(Tx.). We gotta let these folks know there will not be a place for them in 2022.

To divide the caucus is to hand power back to the Democrats.

Stick together? You mean like Senator Shelby campaigning for progressive Democrat Doug Jones? Or maybe GOPers voting to impeach Trump based on a Democrat hoax?

Wake up and smell the coffee. The GOP is just fine handing power to progressive Democrats when it suits them. What’s good for the goose applies in spades here.

Then there’s the California recall and the Va. Governors race this year. Our enemies are the democrats. Then deal with the RINO’s next year.

” If a Republican majority is elected, the only way they can accomplish anything is to stick together and force through legislation we support.”

No, not if “sticking together” means the Cheney/McCarthy/McConnell wing is the leadership.

“It starts Jan. 1. first primary is March 1(Tx.).”

Exactly. That is the only way to get conservatives in power. We need to 1:
1) Purge all the RINOs that voted to make Biden president
2) Impose our own term limits by removing anyone who has served more than 4 terms.

I agree....the GOP ALREADY works with the Dems to pass legislation...this would be a way to at least deprive them of some of what they will do to continue to betray America.

Why couldn’t Republican candidates run on an America First platform.
They would still be repubs
But they would basically agree on 5 or so major points.
Then if they don’t follow through they are done.
That is assuming there will be legitimate elections in the future.

______

Could not agree more.....take away their leadership......at this point, we have not much to lose

The GOP has long been self-neutering.

Republican is pretty meaningless. We had a Republican house, senate and presidency for the first 6 years of Bush. We had a republican house, senate and presidency the first two years of Trump and all they did was attack him relentlessly, hold his nominations hostage, forbid him from firing people, ever-ride his policies on Mexico, China, Russia, Syria and Afghanistan.
The GOP supported the 2020 election steal.

Republicans need to come up with a reason to trust them again. And if the same leaders are there, they have not learned a thing.

We are way past the “Let’s devise a cunning plan” stage.

We are fully and completely at the brute force stage.

> To divide the caucus is to hand power back to the Democrats.

McCarthy and McConnell have demonstrated that their "leadership" is de facto Democrat control of both chambers.

And besides, shouldn't there be some Constitutional prohibition against the leaders of both chambers having surnames that start with "Mc" ?

I occasionally watch the Jimmy Dore Podcast, he’s an extreme liberal on most issues but believes in Freedom of the Press and a couple of other things I agree with...

He had a similar idea for Medicare for All.....his plan was to use the squad to vote with Republicans and not allow Pelosi to become Speaker unless she brought up Medicare for All for a vote, a similar plan could work for “America First” Republicans...vote with Democrats unless you get a Republican that guarantees a MAGA agenda as Speaker...

They way a “America First Caucus” could hold all the power is not to splinter into independents...

In the House, if Republicans take control, the America First Candidates can control who becomes Speaker by pledging to vote with Democrats and against Kevin McCarthy...

If they decide to vote for Kevin McCarthy then extract certain guarantees if you can believe them...
