Why We Failed: The American Exit From Afghanistan
Bari Weiss ^ | August 16, 2021 | Bari Weiss & Others

Posted on 08/16/2021 10:16:44 AM PDT by yoe

While the leader of the free world hunkers down at Camp David and his top spokeswoman is “out of office,” many of us are left wondering what to make of the horrific images coming out of Afghanistan.

In lieu of an explanation from President Biden, I asked some of the most thoughtful people I could think of to answer the question: What are we to make of what just happened? What is the meaning of it for Afghanistan, for America and for the world?

Some served in Afghanistan. Others made policy decisions that shaped the war. Still others have been bearing witness to it — and helping the rest of us make sense of it — for two decades.

Some believe the collapse was inevitable, even as they acknowledge the tragedy. Others believe it was avoidable and that, as Gen. H.R. McMaster puts it below, “it will be years before the stain of 2021 can be effaced.” — BW

We never went to war with the enemy, we went to a "police action", perpetrated by elected Americans who had/have forgotten what being an American means....like the 17 Republican senators who voted to advance the bipartisan infrastructure plan...leaving Afghanistan the same way.

Both China and Russia are watching with smacking lips as to how the US is failing to handle the Afghanistan problem.

No doubt something will be in in the works for Taiwan and Ukraine.

Right. This is very quickly going to be described as “America’s Failure.”

But when PDJT was in office, every single thing that went wrong, no matter how tiny, was “Trump’s fault.”

Coincidentally, Afghanistan has large amounts of lithium. China is desperate to maintain their control of the battery market. China has been building battery factories at a fevered pace, but they need lithium. China has already been in talks with the Taliban. Looks like biden is doing his part to help China, again.

Everyone knows Joe Biden is incompetent.

So, why no Resistance movement by the GOP?

It worked against Trump.

Instead, the GOP starts out with, he’s a good man, BS.

We did not fail.

The world leader consensus was to leave Afghanistan and we have.

However, Biden is the fall guy, the incompetent who lacks the ability to make informed and timely decisions

Does anybody remember if it was Obama/Biden who said “This is the war we have to win”?

The media was all over that trashing Bush and McCain. I guess Biden decided it wasn’t.

Usually with Trump, though, it was things going right that they called things going wrong.

We failed because we tried to nation-build with tribal savages.

The only people who failed are the ones who will be running around like chickens with their heads cut off...

blaming Trump.

They are gonna be easy to spot!

The services don’t support each other and fight for money by bad mouthing each other.

We tried to win this on the cheap.

We needed divisions of troops and an iron fist.

This was a Special Forces and Air Force war and we lost it.

We should have uprooted all the people and moved them around.
