Weapons Captured By The Taliban On Just One Base
Nobody cares a tinkers damn. But they move heaven and earth to try to disarm Americans gun owners. But the Taliban? That’s hunky-dory.
I’m starting to miss the Carter years. At least then, this country wanted to succeed and was willing to try.

I hope some of our soldiers won’t be shot by our own weapons. What a disaster! And I heard that jihadists are flocking to Afghanistan from other countries.
I guarantee we didn’t leave stingers. Don’t ask how I know, just trust that even the deep state doesn’t want proliferation of Gen IV MANPADS.
Also, we never had a need for them even during the invasion.

Right. And as I mentioned elsewhere, Biden really didn’t really have much of a choice here. Had he ordered all that equipment removed or destroyed, the United States would have been accused of abandoning an ally. And that accusation would have had some merit.
Biden is a bumbler and an idiot. But in this case he’s just playing the bad hand that George W. Bush dealt this country.
I’m sure Thoroughly Modern Milley thinks that the Taliban are far less dangerous than “white supremacists”.
Whenever I hear music from the early to mid 2000s, I think of how happy I was that W was leading us during those times. Now all I can do is shake my head at how delusional I was.

We taught the ANA to account for weapons and equipment. And we taught them how to destroy them if they needed too.
But, like we all knew, they are unprofessional cowards who wouldn’t fight without direct US ground and air support.
Cowards drawing a paycheck.
Because you were in the US military.
These were probably carried by Afghani forces that tossed all that crap in a pile when their paychecks stopped and their handlers left. And they believed the Taliban telling them if they just go home, all’s forgotten.
I’m sure all the bolts are still in place too - not one attempt being made to deactivate anything.
It will be interesting to see where this stuff turns up in the years to come.
Biden just completed the task started by George Walker Bush. "Nation building" is a fool's errand doomed to fail wherever tribal groups prefer tribalism. I’ll play the devil’s advocate here. Let’s say you’re an ANA lieutenant in charge of an arms locker. For the past year you’ve seen the handwriting on the wall. And now Taliban forces are just a mile from your base.
You could destroy all those weapons, and risk an immediate execution when the Taliban catches up with you. Or you could take off your uniform and just melt away into the countryside. And what do you care anyway? Your allegiance is to your tribe, and not to the pretend nation of Afghanistan.
Is that cowardly behavior? I suppose to a certain extent it is.
