For the millions of us around the world who have looked forward to Daniel Silva’s books each summer for the last twenty-one years, this new one he's written, The Cellist, represents an ending, and a sad one at that.
The writer that for all those years taught his readers about the art of art restoration interwoven with the storied career of his main character, Gabriel Allon, a member of Israel’s Mossad, has become so addled by his hatred of President Trump that this book reads like a tired screed from Media Matters, a group committed to destroying all things even mildly conservative, which runs a deranged leftist blog.
Sure, he can claim in his Author’s Notes that all of his characters are fictional which will make anyone who reads them laugh out loud. But his story is not well disguised to anyone who reads the news. Opening with a loosely based re-telling of the 2013 death in London of Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky under mysterious circumstances, combined with various retreads of various Russian intelligence-linked poisonings of dissidents, the plot begins with MI-6 concluding that the death is a Russian "wet op" and Putin is to blame. Our fearless Mossad agent, however, finds a group of rogue KGB agents based in Switzerland responsible, and then learns they are planning worse acts to destroy the West with a plan to make Russia supreme. Naturally, a loosely disguised President Trump is one of the bad guys, an actual asset of this fictional network of Dr. Evils.

One of the best reviews on Amazon...
“I returned same day I received it. Have read all his other books, got a whiff in his last book but the dedication finished me with him. He dedicated to Capitol Police saving democracy on Jan 6th.. That was all I needed to return it immediately.”
Tells me all I need to know.
Although I have enjoyed Silva’s older works, Leftist authors suck. Their ignorance always ruins a good thing. His take on Muslim Brotherhood shill Khashoggi was ludicrous as well.
Who?
Trump vs the world.
Better spot the world another thousand evil doers. Just to make it a ..well, fair fight isn’t the right word...give them a chance?
I read every Daniel Silva book, but after last year’s book, I didn’t buy this one. He’s been brainwashed by CNN & his wife. It’s infuriating he could be this clueless.
His last book prior to this one was also moving to the left and had a slight anti-Israel tinge. But it sounds like he’s really gone crazy with this one, so I think I’ll skip it.
While it’s true that leftists have gone mad with TDS, it’s not unique with Trump. I remember when the mild-mannered, standard RINO Bush somehow became a combination of a foaming at the mouth Hitler and an evil, all knowing Dr. Who in the minds of the left, and there was nothing too outrageous or vicious to say about him.
As for writers, they all seem to go bonkers and turn towards the paranoid left…John Le Carre and Robert Harris, for example. I have noticed that the quality of their writing declines when they do this, however, and they end up creating nothing but leftist screeds acted out by cardboard characters or even pure caricatures.
Ditto. Never again.
He has been very anti-Catholic for some time. I’m not a Catholic, but it makes me angry. Especially when a ‘minority’ person (I believe he switched to Judaism because of his wife, Jamie Gangel) seeks to destroy a different minority group.
I will NEVER understand Jews who seeks to destroy Israel. And not acknowledge that it is the LEFT trying to destroy Jews, themselves.
We listened to a bunch of these books on audio book. They were OK. And I wouldn’t say he was anti-Catholic, because isn’t Gabriel pals with Pope in a few of them? But it did become a very annoying trope that he would have “ultra-conservative” Catholics as bad guys often.
You could see where this guy was headed, and really it’s a shame.
What did Robert Harris do? I have recently completed the series on Cicero. Was thinking of Pompeii. Now you are giving me pause.
His early books are fantastic, and Cicero in particular is a truly great book. It’s just his recent ones, starting around the time of The Ghost, which is a paranoid fantasy about Tony Blair (who was considered conservative at that time).
I so,etc was read the reviews on Amazon and it seems that many people have noticed that.
But his earlier books are truly outstanding.
My previous post on Silva based on another Americanthinker piece.

The guys a major disappointment.
You’re right. Silva is a major disappointment. I really enjoyed the early Gabriel books. Every year I looked forward to the new one. I predict Hollywood will make a movie of this latest book. They probably love it.
Same here.......
......what a shame
....but I have found some new authors recently
Me too…
