Some things are always a joy: beautiful sunrises and sunsets, the laughter of grandchildren, walks on the beach, my wife's cooking — and until now, the Gabriel Allon novels by Daniel Silva. Year after year, I have impatiently awaited summer and the release of his next book.
But this year's offering, The Cellist, has put an end to my craving for Silva's writing. Sadly, in this book, the author has abandoned what is likely more than half his readership and penned a viciously anti-Trump tome.
I knew there was trouble ahead when Silva dedicated his book to the Capitol Police who "defended our republic from the Trump insurrection" of January 6. In his author's notes at the book's conclusion (yes, I read — actually listened to — the entire novel with an increasing sense of pain and loss of a loved one), Silva states that he rewrote the second half of the novel after watching the events of January 6. He states that he believes it to be a day more damaging to our nation than 9/11. He claims he was alerted to turn on the TV by his wife, Jamie Gangel, a correspondent for CNN. Doubtless, it was slanted CNN coverage that he consumed — after all, happy wife, happy life.
I have never known or cared about Daniel Silva's politics

because that’s what lefties do ... ruin everything they’re involved in ...
I’ve read novels where the authors bash either side; I just wish they’d leave politics out of their books. And research, it’s infuriating when they don’t do their research on a subject(s).
Those who believe in 1/6 are truly mentally retarded. These psychopaths now connect 1/6 AND 9/11 as a perverse correlation. In the so called information age, society is dying of “information”.
They decided what was allowed and what was not.
The book publishers had a decidedly anti-Christian bias after about 1900.
Even before, consider Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain).
He was, certainly a major talent. None the less, it is hard for me to read his works without seeing the blatant anti-Christian, pro-Northeastern biases.
Rank ‘em:
Court Gentry
Dewey Andreas
Scot Harvath
Mitch Rapp
Pike Logan
Gabriel Allon
I’ve read at least one book from each character series except the Gabriel Allon series.
My number one is Scot Harvath because he’s the most realistic to me.
2 - Court Gentry. The Gray Man could be anyone you see on the street. Ghost.
3 - Dewey... ‘cause his name is Dewey.
4 - Mitch Rapp would’ve been higher, but his character has turned into kind of a dick since the other guy took over.
5 - Pike is a whiner.
6 - Allon, just because I don’t know the character.
I’m glad I’m not the only one. I absolutely love the Gabriel Allon series. But I couldn’t even finish The Cellist. The politics was so annoying. Plus, it seems that after 20 novels, Silva has finally jumped the shark. Got half way through and the plot was still dragging. Won’t bother if he publishes anymore.
It sounds like a real betrayal of his fans. I stopped reading novelists James Lee Burke and Jonathan Kellerman when they went politically correct.
Silva dedicated his book to the Capitol Police? The organization that covered up the murder of Ashli Babbitt by one of its officers? That not only refused to put their killer on trial, but refused even to name him?
I have not read Silva, and now I never will. He is a POS.
I experienced a lot of similar losses in the last several years.
Even people I knew were Leftists kept things civil and rational (as rational as a Leftist can be).
It wasn’t until Trump won in 2016 that the Trump hate-fest began and things went south.
When they would say something nasty and untrue, I would speak in President Trump’s defense - and that turned out to be an unforgivable sin.
For several years, I learned to keep my mouth shut around certain people to keep the peace. I felt lucky to have a man I greatly admired as President - a luxury I hadn’t enjoyed since Ronald Reagan.
I kind of felt sorry for the Trump haters - they lost I won - I didn’t need to rub it in.
But after what they did November 3, January 6 and thereafter - I am spitting angry and I pretty much go ballistic at Trump haters.
I’ve lost a lot of friends over it. Very sad.
Guy’s a fag. Recognize it and move on. There are other authors.
I'm a fan of George Dewey and Melvil Dewey but not Tom Dewey.
It's not enough to be neutral these days.
I’m a big fan of the Mitch Rapp series. The next book should be out soon.
Because that's what leftists do.
Yup. Even on youtube. The only channel that I know of which I subscribe to is Minty’s Comedic Arts where he reviews 80’s and 90’s movies. I’ve seen 95% of his reviews and I KNOW he steers away from politics, even though there were “easy” openings to inject them. He knows his audience unlike some idiots. He’s not even American. I wish every dude was like this.
I used to enjoy Stephen King back in the 70’s but he turned out to be a Liberal wackjob and lost me.
The Lucas Davenport series (Rules of Prey, etc) by John Sandford is going down the drain in a similar manner. First 15 books were solid. Then about six books back the lefty stupidity of the author started to shine through. I couldn’t even finish his 2020 book. Damn shame.
Also, publishers have sensitivity readers these days. Sometimes in place of editors.
That won’t help.
