The Washington Post reports today that not only is the so-called “Delta variant” in full swing, causing sphincters to go flaccid in some parts of the country, but now something much worse is on the horizon.
South Korea’s Disease Control and Prevention Agency said Tuesday that it had recorded at least two cases of the new coronavirus delta-plus variant, which some experts believe to be more transmissible than the original delta variant that was first detected in India and has since thwarted plans for returning to life before the pandemic.
But what do we know about “delta plus,” yet another new variant causing alarm among governments and health officials? First identified in Europe in March, the variant is also known as B. 1.617.2.1 or AY.1.
It has been detected in several countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States and India.
…
The variant and the others that the CDC is monitoring greatly underscore the need for ramped-up vaccination efforts, Hildreth said, pointing out the large swaths of the population who are still unvaccinated and minority communities with underlying health conditions that make them more susceptible to variants.
“The virus is not going to wait around for us to get our act together,” he said. “We’re in danger of something that’s going to set us back.”
“More transmissible than the original delta variant.” To put that in perspective:
Cool cool…#DeltaVariant is one of the most highly transmissible respiratory viruses, similar to chickenpox and more than Ebola, smallpox, MERS, SARS, Bird flu, 1918 pandemic flu!
But we’re just gonna let our unvaccinated children go to school without masks….. pic.twitter.com/uRHgHyAIrs

The “Delta plus” variant isn’t the only one kicking around.
Miami is just a petri dish of COVID variants.
University of Miami data from 2nd week of July shows 62% patients have Delta variant, 20% had Gamma (Brazilian), 9% B.1.621variant (Colombia) and 3% Lambda (Peru).
A month ago there was only 2 total identified patients w/ Delta.

And there are more letters in the Greek alphabet that have yet to be used.
A viral infection mutating through variants is hardly unusual. One of the reasons that there is no vaccine for the common cold is because there are so many variants that it is not possible, given the current state of the science, to produce a single vaccine to combat all of them. My guess is that the Wuhan virus is going to do the same thing as there are indications that the “Delta variant” may not respond to the vaccine developed for the garden variety Wuhan virus.
As I’ve posted over and over, none of this has anything to do with your health and everything to do with establishing control over the population. The Wuhan virus is here to stay. It is going to mutate because that is what viruses do. The arrival of new variants, like annual variants of the seasonal flu, is a given and largely immaterial because the evolutionary path of the virus is something over which we exercise little-to-no control. What is important is how the new variants will be used to circumscribe liberty. If the “Delta variant” is an example, each discovery of a new variety of the Wuhan virus will be accompanied by cries for lockdowns and a return to wearing face masks. These demands will be made regardless of the science, their purpose is to keep the general population jittery and compliant. If you recall, last year police were used to break up Easter services and funerals. Parents were arrested for playing with their children outside. Mounted police were employed to roust people from beaches and parks. Parties in private homes were forbidden. Violent demonstrations were outlawed…uh, strike that, that didn’t happen.
The one thing we’re seeing about the “Delta variant” is that whatever superpowers of transmissibility it possesses, it is much less lethal than Wuhan Classic. Infections don’t matter so long as the infected person lives through the experience and recovers. What does matter is how our freedoms and civil society are chipped away by people who would happily walk over your dead body if it increased their personal power.
Or the Delta Dawn variant!
Or the Delta Force variant!
Or the Delta Airlines variant!
I’m sure the image you posted is interesting but it’s too small for my eyes to make out.
GOOD! The more variants the better. The sooner we will have herd immunity.
It’s showing in Washington State, the fatality rate from the dreaded Delta variant is 0.3%. Yawn.
here’s what I’ve gleened on D and D+ (first seen in Nepal)
B.1.617.2 (Delta) India: This variant was first detected in the United States in March 2021 and became dominant in May 2021, followed by 96% dominant in the UK by July. It’s estimated that 90% of Russian cases since June 2021 are Delta. It was initially identified in India in December 2020. - two key spike protein mutations — T478K and L452R — that allow it to infect cells more easily and evade the body’s immune response. the L452R mutation is thought to make Delta and Epsilon more infectious and resilient against vaccination. Delta has 20 unique mutations, one of which amplifies a mutation first seen in Beta that increases replication rate leading to much higher viral loads in a shorter period of time. It’s been said in India and Russia that Delta is more resistant to drugs used in hospital and larger doses are needed than for previous variants. All western nations are reporting that antibody protection against Delta is less than that of the original strain across the board - uninfected, reinfected, currently infected, cross-infected, and partly vaccinated with the best protection shown in those fully vaccinated.
B.1.617.?? (Delta Plus) - Nepal India - First isolated in India on April 5, 2021 and first seen in the UK April 26. By Jun 16, 197 cases in 11 countries. 40 cases of the variant were first observed in the states of Maharashtra, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh, India. UK cases were returns, transiting thru Nepal or Turkey. K417N, L452R, T478K. “The mutation K417N has been of interest as it is present in the Beta variant (B.1.351 lineage), which was reported to have immune evasion property,” India’s health ministry said in a statement. Shahid Jameel, a top Indian virologist, said the K417N was known to reduce the effectiveness of a cocktail of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies.
Because liberals only understand sequels. The haven’t had an original thought in more than a century.
Mail-in voting, forever !!!
sorry, Epsilon is taken:
B.1.427/429 - (Epsilon) (California) First reported Jan 2021 in California, exceeding 50% in California since February 2021, by end of July was in 34 countries. The L452R mutation reduced neutralizing activity of 14 out of 34 RBD-specific monoclonal antibodies (mAbs). The S13I and W152C mutations resulted in total loss of neutralization for 10 out of 10 NTD-specific mAbs (Epsilon is being displaced by Delta infections)
it’s a nasty little critter, not polite at all
Whatever happened to the Alpha, Beta and Charlie variants? I don’t even remember them.
Ha ha! Good one!
“One of the reasons that there is no vaccine for the common cold is because there are so many variants that it is not possible...”
Liar.
They are different viruses and many of them. They even are from different virus families, there are rhino viruses and coronaviruses.
Covid is of course a corona virus.
It’s now essentially a bad cold.
Never heard that Epsilon had made its debut.
Interesting.
What they are setting up and really want is a “public health emergency” in Autumn 2022, so they can suspend election rules and steal the next election. They know they can’t win it on the sorry record they are establishing.
"OH....MY......GAWD!"
Isn’t using the Greek alphabet for illnesses derogatory to the Greek people?
Who the Hell Hell are you you to tell us us what to do do??
What, they don’t like the word Epsilon for a 5th variant?
