"But what seemed at the time like a straight-forward approach to the enforcement of existing gun laws has instead become mired in chronic shortcomings, failing for years to make good on its potential. Successive administrations have vowed to fix the problems, but all have fallen short."

Something missing here...let's see, who could it be? Oh, yeah, not once here or in the article are lawful gun owners even mentioned.
I have to disagree, sounds like a good program gone bad. Take guns away from people who were oredered to surrender their firearms do to domestic violence or mental issues.
The problem is that most California judges are Marxists, and have no mental health expertise. Every divorce has some shouting matches, and for these judges a shouting match = take away guns.
Morons-
And they just know they are so smart...
People are either
A.) A citizen, with rights.
Or
B.) A person that is a threat to society as a criminal, or danger to society if crazy. Then they should be incarcerated or institutionalized if the threat rises to that level.
This limbo land bullshit where we take a citizens rights away forever, although they paid their price in fines and and imprisonment is hypocritical and a joke. If they pose a threat, they should not be on the street because they can just as well kill people with a car, bomb made from common household or agricultural products, tools, poison, etc.
They are either a threat, or not a threat.
They either paid the price and are now fully restored as citizens, or they have not.
***What these idiots are really saying: we are looking for thousands of exceptions and exclusions to a Constitutional right, so that we can grab your gun for any reason (criminal, psychological, etc). We want to make it super easy for anyone at any level, to just make an accusation, and immediately your rights are suspended.
The road to hell is always paved with good intentions. Even Hitler would argue that he had good intentions.
“This is what happens when a bunch of Marxist gun-grabbers try to operationalize their plans with a completely dysfunctional state government.”
You just touched on one of the many reasons communism is low IQ.
If you are a normal law abiding person just trying to live life in California, it is extremely inconvenient and costly to jump through the hoops.
If you are a homeless drug addicted drifter or foreign national in the commission of a felony you will remain legally off the radar.
Nobody wants to try yo “confiscate” another American citizen’s property. Especially the only item that our constitutionally specifically protects his/ her ownership of.
Can’t think of a higher risk “job” unless it’s pulling wild lions’ teeth without any anesthetic
Or maybe standing on the track in front of the finish line at the Indy 500 race.
Or maybe being anywhere in the path of Chinese women drivers vying for that one last parking space at Costco.
I agree. What we don’t want are individual judges or politicians deciding who is sane or stable or not. Not when the President of the US believes men can get pregnant....
If I’m in prison, no guns for me. Once I get out...I’m a citizen again. And FWIW, I’ve never spent an hour in prison. Haven’t even had a traffic ticket in nearly 30 years. But a former gang member should still have the right to self-defense.
Give the government a break. They will be just as successful at banning illegal fire arms as they are banning illegal drugs flooding across the border and keeping illegal aliens from crossing the same border.
I think David Chipman does.
True.
Until they are.
This whole program in California is designed to do exactly that.
Do you trust your "reasonable" ex-wife? You already bought her a house, and are being bled dry with alimony and child support. Why not shit can the rest of your Constitutional rights?
Given your screen name, I wasn't worried. /rim shot>
The Second Amendment makes no exceptions for misdemeanors, felonies, of restraining orders. The Second Amendment wording is absolute. Every gun law on he books is unConstitutional. The only possible exception is in the 13th Amendment in its reference to involuntary servitude as a punishment for crime which could be interpreted to disallow incarcerated persons to possess arms.
My reasonable ex took out an exparta protective order while she was in jail for 3rd degree assault. Yes she filed from jail.. .And I was the one she assaulted! She had a knack of manipulating men, playying the battered wife when she was the batterer. ! So yes I know the courts can screw up a lot of good intentions. The story says they wete people with convictions and known mental issues they were trying to round up.

Oh, he everlasting bliss of marriage. Why I’ve never done it.
BANG. You will never work again, your security clearance flies south, forever, you can't even rent an apartment, assuming you can afford one, you can't even get a CDL...
