I don’t think you evaporate much when you are submerged in water.

“The extreme heat continued into the July Fourth weekend. The high in Portland on Thursday was about 79 degree.”

Since WHEN has “79 degree” been considered hot? There were 3 days when it was “Vegas like” here, but since then, it’s been cool, and as I type this, I have the window open.

Dumb to die because you have not any a/c. $150 to $300
Use it when you need it. I knew people who love hot weather and would not use a/c. Not me. I will use a/c 24/7

All types to buy.

"Maybe they can get Antifa to distribute fans."

I remember years ago here in Mobile we had a heat-wave and the Black community 'rose-up' and demanded that the city do something to help out the seniors who were suffering. The city agreed and gave everyone who wanted one a big box fan. (The city is 55% Black)

Well...that wasn't good enough and more demonstrations ensued and the city agreed to give the needy an air conditioner.

Well...2-3 months later they were back in the streets again...their electricity had been 'cut-off' for non payment.
They said that the city was at fault because they knew when they gave out the AC's that the people couldn't afford the electricity.
All this with a majority Black city council and a Black mayor, Sam Jones.

The hateful Alabama Power Company eventually 'forgave' the bill and turned the electricity back on again.

Purely coincidental. Because of course they all actually died of COVID-19.

.....and, of course, it was the Delta variant.

Oh, and they were all unvaccinated.

That exact scenario happened to my daughter a few days ago.

No, but if you get wet, evaporation will cool you off when you get out of the water. Sit in the cool water, get out and evaporate for a while. Some folks don’t have the sense to play in the sprinklers.

"The repair company they contract had exactly ONE condenser left on his truck and he stopped by around 7:30 pm to replace it. It was his NINTH call of the day. Those guys are worn to a frazzle. I paid out-of-pocket to have it repaired."

I have back-up window units out in the shed for that reason. When a hurricane shuts down the power for a week and it's 95 degrees at night...I have my trusty window unit cooling only the bedroom with my propane fueled generator. I've modified the window and AC so that it is an easy 'four bolt', wing nut installation. And, I have two AC units and two generators.

There have been volcanic eruptions in the Cascades that likely killed more indigenous people than that. But they happened centuries ago, so they don't count [/S].

“ Some of the deaths were the result of people not having access to fans or air conditioning.”
Who wouldn’t have access to these items? Did the stores run out of product?

Probably burned down by libtards.

I actually thought about that as a backup plan — go buy a window unit. But we got it repaired in about 8 hours, but out-of-pocket. The deductible on the home warranty is up to $100 and it cost $224 to repair, so that extra $124 wasn’t too bad. If I had had a spare condenser on site I could have done the repair myself — it’s a real easy job as long as you discharge the condenser properly and don’t electrocute yourself!

I bought a spare condenser to have on hand for the future.

Even if I grant the premise that the AC units were all sold out, and my car didn't have working AC, there are a wealth of options. The movie theatre is air conditioned, so is the supermarket, so is the public library, so is a McDonald's with $1 refillable drinks. I assume at night time the temperature is no longer 107. Do folks in Oregon have basements? I miss them here in Phoenix, but they are ideal in extreme heat with no AC.

” Do folks in Oregon have basements? I miss them here in Phoenix, but they are ideal in extreme heat with no AC. “

I was just telling someone about the thermal advantages of a basement. Here in SE WA, while it hit 119.5°F on the hottest day, the concrete floor of our basement was 72°.

I did get a new furnace out of our home warranty but not after hours, true. Not getting much use the last couple weeks except for the blower, though!

I also have a 9,000 BTU portable AC in the insulated shed. Well, mostly insulated; I’ve yet to finish it. Will run off the 18 golf cart batteries + inverter.

A Salem state rep is now calling for landlords to provide a/c to all their renters.

Kid you not.

Some people have comorbidities( cognitive decline, debility, etc)...and cannot tell if they are dehydrated or cannot move around..
...what is bad is that the commies in control are incompetent to handle or prepare for these emergencies...they are too busy tilting against racist windmills...and guaranteeing equity in societal outcomes and performance measures...
