That is the problem with us oldsters. We remember too much foolishness from the past. It looks like “Everything old is New Again.”
Nothing more fun than laying back in your old age and watching today’s hip know-it-all young people fall for new versions of old scams our grandparents saw in their youth and warned us about.

My post began with the word "IF", so I don't know about that but it's possible for any mechanical device (no matter who built it) to fail at any given moment, like the safety on a firearm or the hydraulic system on a passenger jet - or maybe even the gravity drive of an extraterrestrial spacecraft.

This is what I have claimed for many years. It’s just logical deduction. Unfortunately, the next logical deduction is that, because we treat the oceans like a garbage dump, they’re going to wipe us out. Probably via germ warfare (if we haven’t already done it to ourselves).

I recall what you are saying, and thought of it as soon as I started reading this thread. Those magazines you mentioned I think were referred to as “men’s” magazines. “Stag” rings a bell. So does “True”. I started reading “Soldier of Fortune” in the late 70’s. They are all goners.
