There are a lot of people in the world and chances are you have seen the same people multiple times on different occasions but each time you see them, they are like a new person to you because you do not remember seeing them all the times before.
For example, I've been taking the 6:46am train out of Westport, CT for years now to head into Manhattan. I have probably seen the same people waiting on the platform with me hundreds of times. In cold weather and hot weather (such as this morning). Yet if I saw them walking down the street in my neighborhood, I would not recognize them and would consider them "new" people that I have not seen before. Even though I waited with them on a train platform many times before.
Ditto for the 5:32pm train out of Grand Central and back to Westport. Very likely that hundreds of people have shared that trip with me dozens of times (if not more) over the years yet each time I see them, they are like a new person to me. I do not remember ever seeing them before.
I think that's because we all tend to mind our own business and stick our faces in phones and books when waiting for a commuter train.
Then you have all the times I went to the local supermarket down the street. Surely, the same people shop there over and over again like I do. But I do not remember anybody. Everytime I go there, it's like I'm seeing all new people for the first time. Yet surely, I have seen some of them many times before. I just do not remember them from the previous times.
There is a particular cashier that I remember and when I see her cashiering, I go to her and skip the self-checkout lanes, because she is a familiar face that I remember seeing before. But I don't really remember any of the other workers there.
Lot of dogwalkers in my neighborhood. When I go walking, I see people walking their dogs constantly but both human and dogs I do not remember. So I see them again later and it's like seeing them for the first time. Like they just moved into the neighborhood. And perhaps they did. For all I know. But there is one particular dog I do remember because it is a perfect golden retriever, just like the golden retriever you see when you look it up in the dictionary. But the person walking it, I do not remember.
I have 2 sisters but different litters. They look completely different.
People notice more when I walk them together vs one at a time.
looks like my dog Charley in his younger days. Lots of dogs in mine too. Just got back walking Wolfie with my wife training him. He’s a wild 1+ year old.

I walk so much, i know all the ladies too. the cute ones the dogs and the female dogs. We have cats too...one male, one female. I won’t make comment...
: )
I have two goldens, sisters from the same litter.
Best dogs ever.
I know very few of the names of my immediate neighbors but I know which yard every dog belongs in.
I see people in pet stores with older dogs that I met as puppies.
Don’t recall the people at all but those dogs all grown up, yup.
Fantastic dogs...
Labs & G.R.s are the smartest and friendliest, IMHO...
Beautiful. I’ve owned 4 Goldens with Finn my current best friend. Loving, loving gifts, each one.
I know this one goldie that actually became aware that many people can’t tell one goldie from another. While another goldie in our cul-de-sac was taking his afternoon nap in relative seclusion, the first one strolled over looking like he belonged. He got welcomed, got tickles, snacks, cuddles etc... Then the actual best friend awoke saying, hey bud, wassup? Hehe.
Love them. They are all clones of each other, equally delightful animals.
Just one?
Our neighborhood is overrun with goldens.
Our Golden was rehomed to us at age one.
Truly the best dog we have ever owned.
93 lbs of teddy bear.
We are blessed to have 2 goldens that allow us to live with them. Duffy is 6 and looks like the pic but with a little silver in the face. Zoey is an unknown age rescue gal who joined the family 4 years ago. She is fully silver faced and mostly silver bodied. She has cancer and her time is short but she never stops sharing the love.
.
All those years I’ve been snubbing you on that train and now you tell me you never noticed? That’s it, I’m getting a dog and training it to snub you, THEN you’ll notice!
Your self description of “hitting your head” explains a lot about this post.
Goldens are the best dogs ever. I didn’t like dogs until a very close friend acquired a Golden, and he became another closest friend. He went out of his mind with joy whenever I would show up. Like the time I came to pick up my child after his first day at kindergarten.
Well at least I own up to it!
I’ll be bok! Heck I am back. Need $10. Meijer in White Lake, Michigan will give you $10 for getting vaxxed. BIG PHARMA roulette anyone?
