Last time I went was pre kids so long ago. The soup was made with canned chicken and the salad dressing was nothing but vinegar. BARF! Never again.

Next time. I like Eagle Rock, it’s a quiet area.

Olive Garden is Americanized Italian. Just like many of the Mexican restaurants. You won’t find the gloppy cheezy buttery stuff in Italy.

Sicily was eventually freed. (More or less) Ireland is still a colony. And the Arabs (etc.) were much more lenient.

Lenient Arabs? And better check what happened to Sicily under Mussolini.

I’ve been to Italy. Ate way off the beaten path at little shops.

There is no comparison. It’s the difference between Trump Hotel in DC and McDonald’s.

They have a “Never Ending Soup” luncheon Special, which I ordered, and enjoyed very much. Luv that Zuppa Toscana!

That sounds like what we used to order when we went to OG. Who cares if the Italians don't like it?

As for the Olive Garden, … mushy pasta, flavorless or hyper-salty sauces and ridiculously high prices

Ditto. The secret of real Italian cooking is the freshness of the ingredients; so IG is a fail right out of the freezer.

>>Well about as close as I get to enjoying mexican is a Taco salad. Perhaps that’s why I don’t care for it.<<

You probably have not had Mexican food from Mexico. If you have had American Mexican food then you have not had Mexican food at all. It is further away from real Mexican food than Olive garden is from Italian

Mexican food even moreso. Mexican everyday average family table food is 100X better than the best American version, even when prepared by Mexicans. Something happens when the recipes and cooks come north. Lard as a key ingredient is just one small part.

That happened to me with Thai cuisine. A new Thai restaurant opened near me and I was one of the first customers. The food was excellent. A friend remarked "Wait a week; they'll be forced to tone it down for American palates." Sure enough I went there a couple weeks later and it wasn't the same. Whenever I order Thai food now, I ask them to prepare it "Thai hot". I'm sometimes not disappointed.

For That I always ask for “5 star and add a side of Thai hot sauce.” If I am lucky it is NOT Surracha. That stuff is awful.

The best gumbo I ever tasted was in a little dive bar in the quarter called “Evelyn’s” on Chartres St. The gentleman that owned the place passed on, and now it’s called the Back Space Bar.

But that night we went, he was tending the bar and the kitchen too. Said he’d made up a batch of country gumbo (don’t care for seafood) and it was a savory delight. I ordered seconds. 😋

Every time I’ve been there, mexican cooks/dishwashers were in the kitchen. Not a fan, however I did like Buca De Pepo’s , Nothing beats homemade.

According to a map of ancient trade routes during their time, they did head up to the British Isles.

And I recall reading an article about a grave or two discovered under an old Irish pub (natch). Forensic Archeologists were brought in and they discovered via DNA analysis, that the skeletons were of Mediterranean origin.

There's one good Chinese restaurant near me. Very nice Chinese lady. Whenever I order something spicy I ask her for a little container of Chinese Chili Oil to put over my dish.
