A few potentially bad apples could spoil the bunch. That is essentially the logic that David Chipman, President Joe Biden’s nominee for director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE or ATF) apparently believes.
During his Senate confirmation hearings, Chipman testified that he believes that some “law-abiding” gun owners could potentially become violent, and therefore further restrictions on all gun owners should be deemed necessary.
Chipman, who served in the ATF for twenty-five years, has since been a policy advisor for multiple gun control groups including Everytown for Gun Safety and most recently at the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence. According to his bio, which is still present on the Giffords.org website, his expertise includes “Ghost Guns, Gun Industry, Law Enforcement, Assault Weapons.”
Using Chipman’s own logic, Chipman should be placed in jail for potentially committing tax evasion. We can’t take his taxes away like he wants to take our guns, so we should just be on the safe side and put the eff’n Commie in jail now.
The basis of all authoritatian reasoning: If someone can abuse their freedom, then all freedom must be constricted.
Chipman testified that he believes that some “law-abiding” gun owners could potentially become violent ..... well, then they aren’t law abiding anymore, right? So there goes that point.
And what if they become violent in defense of themselves, their family or preventing a forcible felony? You know, kind of like the rules that cops have to abide by.

I watched some of his testimony. He really has psycho eyes. If I owned a gun store, there’s no way in Hell I’d sell him a weapon. Not even a sling shot.
The only thing he is suitable for is a straight jacket.

Sounds as if he's planning on doing some things to them that will cause them to want to water the Tree of Liberty.
I believe that some politicians and bureaucrats could very likely become corrupt so we should just incarcerate them all now.

Bad apples do exist. For example, I think that term certainly applies to any federal employee who would pose for a “tough guy” photograph with the burned remains of American citizens that he helped murder.
