On a Southwest flight Sunday from Sacramento to San Diego, an unruly passenger attacked a flight attendant, knocking out two of her teeth and bloodying her face.
Video below:
The police arrested Vyvianna Quinonez, and charged her with battery causing serious bodily injury.
San Diego authorities charged a 28-year-old woman with felony battery after an attack on a Southwest Airlines plane in which a flight attendant lost two teeth and suffered other injuries to her face.
The incident marked an escalation in unruly behavior by airline passengers and led the president of the flight attendants’ union to ask for more federal air marshals on planes.
“Unfortunately, this is just one of many occurrences,” said the union president, Lyn Montgomery. She said there were 477 incidents of “misconduct” by passengers on Southwest planes between April 8 and May 15.
There are allegations that one of the reasons for the incident was yet again a face mask!
The Federal Aviation Administration said Monday that airlines have reported 2,500 incidents of unruly passengers this year, including 1,900 cases in which passengers refused to wear face masks, which are required by federal rule.
The FAA provided those numbers as it announced it was seeking civil penalties totaling $54,500 against five passengers for behavior ranging from refusing to wear a mask to assaulting flight attendants.
That comment is one of the most ignorant I have ever seen on FR. Shame on you.
You must never see the Q-tard threads.

Personally, I decided to refuse this version of the “yellow star” by deception using the examples set by our “pet dependent” people. Seeing that most businesses don't enforce their pet signs - I just ignored the signs. If asked, I claimed to be “exempt” (similar to saying my dog/cat/pony is a service animal - federal law forbids asking why so most don't even ask how) and in all but a very few places that “answer” satisfied the issue. If it didn't I turned away.
But airlines and airports are an “Organization Todt” when it comes to collaboration. I understand their rationale - but masks are useless and wearing a useless article of clothing to prevent disease is foolish.
Until masks are not required - I will not fly. Southwest is my favorite airline for many reasons. They made it possible for me to afford frequent air travel when the Navy or State of CA was not footing the bill. They were a gutsy, innovative, friendly and fun airline. But frankly they abandoned that special culture that made them my “go to” airline many years ago.
We have seen civility decline - but the video does not show terrorism. It does show women are as capable of violence as men - perhaps more so because we are still conditioned not to expect it. (Something I began re-thinking during my assignment with the 1st Marine Regiment in Viet Nam.)
“... the 800 pound elephant in the room no one will admit to...”
Okay.. I’ll admit it... saw the video clip on YouTube and thought, “hmmm, middle aged, WHITE flight attendant and Hispanic 20 something year old”. I just thought I have become too jaded...
I was all by myself in the back so completely at his mercy. POS wouldn’t have DARED to try this in view of anyone. Probably dreamed of a time when he could hit a woman who was unable to fight back.
Flight attendants were more fun when they were called “stewardesses”. Last few times I’ve been on a plane, the “flight attendants” were either grannies or gays.
I can’t believe how people get so offended by stating “stewardess”.
It’s shorter and easier than “flight attendant”.
And it’s actually perfectly fine and not merely sexist as the femiNAZIs want us to believe. “Stewardess” is the feminine form of “steward”.
Men would simply be stewards.
The major actors on the Titanic during its tragic demise were STEWARDS.
What is so offensive about this?
...Vyvianna Quinonez...
Should have to show your I-9 to board.
LOL...Great question....
You are wrong in saying that.
The last time I flew, the TSA made me take off my prosthetic leg to see if I was smuggling drugs...That did it for me...
Make a knife edge fist and drive it into their throat next time.
There’s all kinds of low lifes out there, it’s good to always be vigilant.
I’m always polite with airport personnel but I’m extra nice to the ones who look like dating material.
Treat people like cattle and they will behave like animals.
In the video the attacker is wearing a mask.
>> The rules are arbitrary and changing. Ten or so years ago reading a kindle during takeoff and landing was not allowed and now everything except a laptop may be used.
Changing rules - yes. Arbitrary - no. Before I retired in 2004 I was one of the engineering team members of a NASA / FAA / Delta / SkyWest / United project that did the initial research leading to the approval of cellphones on aircraft. See:
https://www.researchgate.net/scientific-contributions/Gerald-L-Fuller-34123166
Fuller (not me) was the lead engineer. After several million $$s of industry and NASA money spent over 2+ years, it came down to “Pull out your pen and sign the approval”. Five of us took a deep breath - and signed. All was well. We won a DARPA award for the project.
After those first steps, the industry has done lot more research. That’s your “changing rules”. More info if you wish in a private chat.
Thanks for explaining. Actually refreshing to hear about the thought and diligence that went into the change. Congrats on the DARPA award!
Fat angry stewardess, eh? I understand.
Not quite.
But, you do you.
