On a Southwest flight Sunday from Sacramento to San Diego, an unruly passenger attacked a flight attendant, knocking out two of her teeth and bloodying her face.

The police arrested Vyvianna Quinonez, and charged her with battery causing serious bodily injury.

San Diego authorities charged a 28-year-old woman with felony battery after an attack on a Southwest Airlines plane in which a flight attendant lost two teeth and suffered other injuries to her face.

The incident marked an escalation in unruly behavior by airline passengers and led the president of the flight attendants’ union to ask for more federal air marshals on planes.

“Unfortunately, this is just one of many occurrences,” said the union president, Lyn Montgomery. She said there were 477 incidents of “misconduct” by passengers on Southwest planes between April 8 and May 15.

There are allegations that one of the reasons for the incident was yet again a face mask!

The Federal Aviation Administration said Monday that airlines have reported 2,500 incidents of unruly passengers this year, including 1,900 cases in which passengers refused to wear face masks, which are required by federal rule.

The FAA provided those numbers as it announced it was seeking civil penalties totaling $54,500 against five passengers for behavior ranging from refusing to wear a mask to assaulting flight attendants.

The black man who intervened was a hero in this sad story. The perp should see a very long, if not permanent, ban on flying as well as restitution/jail time to sanction and discourage violent assaults.

Based on experience, I'd have no problem believing either the passenger or FA struck first.

I had more in mind the homeowners who cannot expect others to refrain from trespassing on their property even when it is fences and signed, teachers who cannot discipline a classroom so that children can learn because the parents will sue, retail store clerks who cannot detain a thief—all these kinds of rule-breaking that cannot be resisted by ordinary Americans because of lawsuits by liberals and racial preferentism by progressives.

Let's review: You think you know what happened before the video started because:

1. You've taken enough Southwest flights. However, that doesn't cover this flight. I've flown a lot on Southwest, too, and seen jerk passengers AND jerk aircrew. My experience has been a much higher percentage of jerk aircrew, but I'll wait and see on this one. Your experience allows you to confidently make a pronouncement.

2. Read multiple accounts of the case. Fair enough, if you want to rely on eyewitness testimony. Perhaps you could point me to one that is clearly convincing.

3. You watched the video. But, the video doesn't cover the period before the video. Obvious logic fallacy there...seriously, pull away from the internet argument mentally and think about what you are saying...you know what happened before the video started because you watched the video.

Then Vyvianna Quinonez, 28, punched the flight attendant’s face, video captured by another passenger and obtained by the Sacramento Bee shows. Eventually, another passenger jumped in to stop the attack.

I've flown a lot on Southwest, too, and seen jerk passengers AND jerk aircrew. My experience has been a much higher percentage of jerk aircrew, but I'll wait and see on this one.

I do not have a bias against authority and the authority that flight attendant represented is not a terror to those who do good, but rather to those who do evil, like the perp in this case.
