On a Southwest flight Sunday from Sacramento to San Diego, an unruly passenger attacked a flight attendant, knocking out two of her teeth and bloodying her face.
Video below:
The police arrested Vyvianna Quinonez, and charged her with battery causing serious bodily injury.
San Diego authorities charged a 28-year-old woman with felony battery after an attack on a Southwest Airlines plane in which a flight attendant lost two teeth and suffered other injuries to her face.
The incident marked an escalation in unruly behavior by airline passengers and led the president of the flight attendants’ union to ask for more federal air marshals on planes.
“Unfortunately, this is just one of many occurrences,” said the union president, Lyn Montgomery. She said there were 477 incidents of “misconduct” by passengers on Southwest planes between April 8 and May 15.
There are allegations that one of the reasons for the incident was yet again a face mask!
The Federal Aviation Administration said Monday that airlines have reported 2,500 incidents of unruly passengers this year, including 1,900 cases in which passengers refused to wear face masks, which are required by federal rule.
The FAA provided those numbers as it announced it was seeking civil penalties totaling $54,500 against five passengers for behavior ranging from refusing to wear a mask to assaulting flight attendants.
The stewardess made first contact. She should think twice before putting her hands on someone again.
And, pray tell, what did the other 100 or so dolts on the flight do when this was happening?
If memory serves me, a similar Nut Boy who acted out shortly after 9/11 was tackled and forced to the aisle. Held there ‘till the cops got to him after landing.
He died due to suffocation, at which point his mommy stepped forward and sued the airline.
The courts: “Too bad; so sad - case dismissed!
That must have been before the age if security cameras. Otherwise it would have been easy to ID the guy. Having a late checked bag would have helped too.
And you’re one of the reasons so many have left FR
>> About time someone punched out one of those air Nazis.
WTF are you talking about? The rules are quite clear - sit down, fasten your seatbelt, turn off your phone and put your seat and tray table up. If you are unwilling to comply, drive or take the bus.
That comment is one of the most ignorant I have ever seen on FR. Shame on you.
It will be a cold day in hell when I’m required to wear a mask while flying on an Air Craft.
If I need to get some place I’ll drive there. That way I decide what to do and How comfortably I can be and do it without a Mask.
Air travel has become what bus travel used to be. Too cheap to keep the rift raft off. Kinda glad the tsa keeps firearms and knives off planes, or it could turn into “ the shoot out at 30,000 feet above the O. K. Corral”
I agree as well.
I think the mask mandates are a sham and infringement on personal liberty.
That said, I have a choice, and one choice is to not go somewhere where a mask mandate applies. (Full disclosure: I work in healthcare, so I wear one anytime I am in the building (as mandated) but that is what I do, even if all it does is provide psychological comfort for frightened patients-and if it reduces the chance of someone, somewhere, somehow being infected by .0000001%, I’ll do it. People don’t go to hospitals to get sick.)
But if I go to a store and there is a sign, I’ll put one on, or...not go in the store. Sometimes I go in, and the people working there may not have masks, and if they don’t, I’ll take mine off. But I keep in mind the person is often just someone trying to make a living, they don’t want to be a mask nazi, but...they may work for a leftist boss who would fire them for not enforcing it.
So I wear one for those situations.
As for air travel-as others have opined, it isn’t just you. It is all the other people on the plane who may be a military personnel flying home for long anticipated leave, or someone flying to see a loved one before they pass on.
And that woman should be banned from flying for life, locked up, and serve real time for assault. That physical assault had nothing to do with personal liberty and everything to do with immaturity and criminal lack of control.
Rush hour, heavy push of planes, crowded airport, overcrowded baggage claim, typical looking guy, no security in sight = SOL.
I suggest that in order to stay out of prison that you not fly
Or drive,
Or go to a store - or any kind of business
Or a park
Or theater
Or office - unless it’s a “doctor”
Better for you to stay at home - alone would be best.
Seriously.
This rise in passenger ire is fueled by mask mandates and airline staff being insistent on them.
Yes, always blame the victim. /s
Frankly, they should have closed the door, taken off and ejected her from 20000 feet.
I am not in sync with the demand to wear masks but it is the right of the conveyance to set the rules. If you choose to use their plane, you agree to abide by the rules. If you don’t, well, the 20000 foot ejection would be a simple fix: Thank you for flying SWA, just before out you go.
Meanwhile, the mummy dummy still sports his mask when in public, the few seconds he is.
“They need to remove the mask rule or there will 2000 more cases where people will fight the airline staff!”
The airline has every right to determine they want the mask in place or you don’t go. Using a service for the passenger’s convenience is the travelers choice. If they don’t wish to conform to the requirement, then they can get a ticket on another airline that doesn’t require this, charter their own flight, or get personal ground transportation.
And trusting the vaccines to stop the passing of c-19 when even the FDA won’t sanction it, shows a lot of faith in something we don’t know more about than what they tell us. The vaccines are less than a year old in usage and the theory on it has changed more times than I can count. And it’s length of time to work has been questioned as they are already talking boosters. So how safe are you with it. Few know and they aren’t talking.
Violent threats only return violence. The woman that did it is being charged as a felon. That means the big house where felony assault and battery usually is punishable by one to twenty-five years in prison, depending on the specific provisions of each state’s sentencing statute or sentencing guidelines. What’s the point of getting into this? Another one that passed the higher apes on the way down the chain.

Seriously? You viewed the video and you support the woman throwing punches at an airline attendant doing her job, and not responsible for making the policy? If you don't like it, don't fly.
Bingo.
Then by all means please go punch a cop in the face. Don't whine like a little b*tch afterwards that you got what you deserved afterwards.
If you repeated this post 1,000 times, it would still likely not sink in.
“lower prices for traveling attracts trash that otherwise would have to stay home in their trailers”
...yep. This is why “Carnival Cruise Lines” was always where videos of flying chairs and fists erupted in the cafeteria. $500 cruises. You get what you pay for.
I loved flying internationally and have made several friends in Europe. But I’m sorry - wearing a mask for 12 or more hours is not something I do for fun. If this is how it will be from now on, my vacation travel will be by driving.
I imagine I’m not alone. Things have changed and I don’t think that international tourist travel will return to anything close to 2019 levels. It’s just not a pleasant experience under these conditions.
