Maybe for the first four, but I think 40 S&W is not going anywhere. Way more popular than 10mm.
Agreed. overreach by the writer.
My exact thought as well.
I think the 41 mag hangs around too. The .327 Fed Magnum has overtaken the H&R.
You are correct there are millions of 40S&W handguns out there.
Far more of them then a lot of others.
The only one I might agree with is the 32H@R.
Other then that they are all sticking around some time.

Agree,
Have a S&W and SIG in that caliber.
“...Maybe for the first four, but I think 40 S&W is not going anywhere....”
Agree. Lots and lots of .40S&W pistols out there. They can be a tad “snappy” but with a little practice, they’re not that hard to control and get decent hits with.
As stated, the 9mm ammo has come a long ways over the years, and I’ve been known to carry one in the hot summer months as it’s just a little easier to conceal.
Personally, I rather prefer anything that starts with .4 in my handguns for close-in self defense though.
I think there are just way too many 40’s out there, and it will be widely available for a long, long time. 40 S&W is still the 3rd or 4th best selling handgun caliber. Either way, as new as it is, almost all pistols that are chambered in 40 S&W can very easily be converted to 357 sig and/or 9mm with off the shelf parts in a few minutes. Which begs the question, why is 357 sig not on this list?
Just based on the sheer number of handguns that have been sold in that caliber, you are correct. Even if manufacturers stop producting the guns altogether, those existing .40's still need to be fed, and ammo producers will continue to be all too happy to fill that market need.
I assume there are too many .40’s out there for them to go away fast. Maybe in a few decades.
I work part time in a gun shop.
40 S&W is going away.
10mm is gaining popularity.
I saw 10mm on the shelf today at Cabela’s and one 1000 round box of 55 grain .223. I agree, .40 isn’t going anywhere.
I'd be sad if 32 ACP goes away entirely. I have an heirloom Colt chambered in that.
I suspect the writer included 40 S&W just for controversy and to get his story more notice.
That’s what I was thinking too. Decent round, and lots of chambers out there that want it.
Glock just updated its 40s to gen5 ... not a sign of decay whether you love or hate Glocks.
Ten MM is cool if you (and your hands) are big and/or if you are in bear, lion, or dangerous two-legged mammal country.
Otherwise the .40 short-and-weak does a fine job for a better price.
