After a two-year, $17 million dollar search involving 12 contestants, the U.S. Army has finally picked its first new handgun in 32 years. The Sig Sauer P320 Compact pistol is now the M17 handgun, replacing the M9 Beretta.

All that matters is whether they are used against the people or for the people against an illegitimate government. Definitely not soon but 100% likely in the next 32 years.

Compared to the Beretta, its no contest. Beretta sucks as a combat handgun, so the bar wasnt that high to begin with.

Sig makes a good product. I have a 320. I use their 365 as a compact CC. I still prefer my G19 over the 320 just for fit.

So, are these manufactured at their plant in Portsmouth, NH?

This plant can not hire enough people.

Have the P320 RX, did some trigger work and its my EDC.

Just love it!

Lots of training, even through this ammo shortage.

I’ve had two P320 myself, now own a P320 X-Five Legion.
I like these guns. I also have a P365. I also have VP9 and VP40, which are more egonomic for my smaller hand.

"...two-year, $17 million dollar search..."

Perfect example of government waste. Blow $17 million to pick a standard pistol.

SIGs work. All the time. I very carried and trained with mine for more than two decades now. It’s a “you bet your life” quality of item.

Well, I’m definitely dinosaur, an old one at that, and prefer my old Colt 1911 with 230gr round ball.
But if “forced” to use one of the modern plastic guns, it would most likely be a Glock; G17, G19, G19X or better yet, a G21.
The SIGs are good guns, but I find their bore axis too high for me, not to mention their price.

IMHO, nothing wrong with this selection and it should serve well, though my preference for a service sidearm would be a CZ. I just like the ergonomics better.

I am surprised they did not pick the Browning Hi-Power back then. Much better ergonomics than the Beretta and most of our allies were using it. Israel, UK, Argentina and Canada just switched a few years ago and India still uses an Englis Hi-power on equipment they bought from Canada after WW II.

I have been looking at this as my new carry gun. Does anyone here have one or have you shot one.

Yeah, it’s funny how people are different. I love most Sigs, the geometry is great for my hands. I’ve shot 10” groups at 25 yards with a P226, 2 mags, offhand from the hip, and...eyes closed. I can tell from the feel if I gripped it right.

Where is 17 million? The companies should have tp provide a sufficient number of examples at no charge if they want to win the business. The government has hoarded billions of rounds of 9mm. The testing employees are soldiers on duty that day.

So who embezzled the 17 million?

American made? Last I checked, these are made in the US.

The German company SIG Sauer GmbH & Co. was formed in 1976 as a partnership between Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft (SIG) of Switzerland and J.P. Sauer & Sohn of Germany. Sig Sauer initially was a German & Swiss owned and operated company. I thought it was still so. Your comment prompted me to do some research on the subject. It would seem that Sig Sauer has gone through a number of corporate changes since its inception. Who does what and who owns what today is not entirely clear but to your points - Sig Sauer USA manufacturers guns in New Hampshire.

The Sig Sauer plant is in Portsmouth, NH. It employs hundreds of people from NH & ME.
