However, assuming I did have a daily commute, I would rather have gas at $6.00 a gallon than no gas at $3.00 a gallon.
Exactly.

Gouging cannot be possible without supply.
There’s supply, but it requires diverting a portion of trucks from local routes to longer-distance routes. That’s more expensive to deliver, but also more expensive to alter the established flow. At current prices, it’s not worth the bother to seek out the new customers outside of your area at the expense of your local guaranteed customers.
I’m doing well enough. Good to hear from you.

I wonder how much blame for this will actually rub off on
Biden.
I’m sure the media will be covering for him 100%.

Many people (commuters or merely those who needed a fillup) would not be able to afford the $6/gal gas you spoke of as their wages/budgets are geared for $3. gas.

I guess it just seems to me rather callous for people work from home or are retired and who do not need to commute to earn their livelihood to talk about free market $6 gas. The teeter-totter is broken...no supply to meet the demand.
It is dangerous as it is inflationary when we are already looking at inflation/stagflation.

Permanently? Probably so. But then that’s an issue that goes well beyond this temporary event.
For a few days to get by? I think you are over-stating the impact on their actual budget, vs the impact to their sense of entitlement. And again, if they are that strapped, and that limited as to options, the complete inability to obtain fuel is likely to be *far* more impactful.
Look at it this way: If it takes 2 gallons of gas per day to go to and from work, going from $3 to $6 is an extra $6 in cost. Missing even an hour of work costs more than double that. Everything is a trade-off, including risk.
If you don’t like my assumptions, use your own figures and do the calculation.

For a week. And in my case, by someone who understands commutes of 100 miles per day, and it’s accompanying $9/day cost...and having to spend that half hour and more in line 3 times a week because I couldn’t afford to not be able to get gas for more than a day, and thus having to fill up at half a tank rather than risk getting stuck.
The teeter-totter is broken...no supply to meet the demand.
There is not ‘no supply’, as there were rather large stores. Those stores have now moved from a commonly accessed location to individual’s gas tanks who aren’t actually going to use half a tank over the course of the week, and so become unavailable despite not being used. At the same time, the prices are not high enough to allow for the investment into alternate means of delivery.

I actually don’t believe in full-on price gouging, but I can live with $4.29. They could probably raise it to $8.29 and still run out.
Here's one: Mid-2020, there was a set of surprise long buys in oil when -- just for comparison -- WTI was freaking $26, and in April 2020, the June contract traded as low as $7.
WTI is today trading at 65.81.
You can guess who bought low.

An hour ago I filled my gas tank at Sunoco in NE Florida for less than $3/gallon. My tank was half empty and 4 gallons filled the tank. I love my Chevy Spark 2017. Not one problem in 4 years and has good zip.

And you think we have energy independence when a Russian hacker group can shut down the nation’s biggest fuel line and the WH says “it’s not up to us, Colonial is a private company and it’s up to them whether they pay the ransom or not?”

Biden shut down the Keystone pipeline and gas prices went up
80 cents a gal here in Nashville. Now this. Biden is an idiot.
