Washington D.C. is on edge in advance of the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial, with violent riots expected should the verdict not give the desired result. Because of this, city officials say they have prepared for the worst and the Secretary of the Army has approved the activation of the National Guard. However, the 250 D.C. National Guard troops that are being activated to support the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department won’t be armed. They, instead, are expected to assist with street closures and to keep areas around the city safe. The President is the only one who can authorize the troops to arm “at this time, that’s not a plan.”, a spokeswoman for the National Guard said. She requested anonymity.

Why not just have Walmart greeters instead?
Police and NG troops are only allowed to actively engage protesters if the protesters are conservatives. Otherwise, they are denied the use of force, the use of tear gas and pepper spray, or told to stand-down entirely.

What’s the point of having the National Guard to quell riots if they aren’t armed? What are they supposed to stop the rioters with? I bet at least 1 of the rioters will have a gun. This is not going to end well.
I was thinking the same thing. Essentially with the level of violence that will be happening going in defenseless is an illegal order.

This is where we are now - rioting is a sports event and LEO and the National Guard are mandatory spectators.
I say yes to that. And then immediately move the national capital to a special district in some lands carved out somewhere near Wichita.

Yes, wouldn’t that be a hoot. Move the capital to a more centralized location. Not likely, but giving the residential and commercial areas of DC back to Maryland should be a no-brainer. Maryland has consistently shown no interest in getting the area back but money and cries of racism should put a stop to that.
