Glock G43X MOS: The Ultimate Compact Self-Defense Gun?

The pistol is named G43X MOS — for Modular Optic System. The MOS configuration allows the G43X MOS to mount a variety of optical sights directly to the pistol’s slide, which when mounted, allows for “faster target transition and quicker sights acquisition of your target,” according to the Glock website. In the case of the Slimline group of Glocks, cuts are made into the pistol’s slide for micro-optic mounting and are covered with a removable cover plate.

The G43X MOS also features Glock’s Marksman barrel, a polygonally rifled barrel with “enhanced rifling” for improved accuracy. In contrast to most traditional barrels which have rifling grooves scored in the inside of the barrel, Glock pistols forego traditional rifling scores and are instead polygonal.

Like the gun. Don’t see the need for a sight on a compact carry pistol.

I should have said optic rather than sight. Certainly you want iron sights.

I love the 43X and do not feel that an optic is necessary, but on the G19? Love the optic!

My thought exactly. Optics on a CC seems to clash.

One can easily make hits out to 50 yards with one.

So something to augment the gap between your 1911 and rifle?

“Gap” probably wasn’t the best word....

Meh! Roughly the same size as a Sig P365XL with less capacity and higher price. The Sig is optics ready too if you absolutely have to have it. Pay a few $ more for the Sig.

If I have my 1911 on I don’t need the 43.

I’ve been planning on getting a 43X since I first saw the one my neighbor got. Now, I’ll get this version. After all the craziness with firearms and ammo shortages subsides. No point in getting a pistol if I can’t get any ammo for it. This will be my first 9mm, so I have no 9mm stockpile.

Put it on your list when the Biden’s Law requires you to buy one gun a month.

Random aside: A long time ago I came across the suggestion that the 1911 was chosen in part because aside from its stopping power its accuracy at range suffered relative to smaller caliber arms considered and the Army preferred its officers to commanding rather than shooting. Don’t recall where that was stated though, though it was before the internet caught on.

It doesn’t ever seem to get talked about so maybe it was apocryphal.

For some likely demented reason, or just that I’ve a mile wide and not shallow silly streak, I’m now thinking about Danny Vermin and his Magnum 88 from the movie Johnny Dangerously....

I put a Crimson Trace trigger guard laser on my carry pistol and sighted it in at 10 yards with a bore sight laser. I had to get a new holster, but who doesn’t have extra holsters. At 10 yards, it’s s perfect. At two yards, it’s about an inch low.

I got it because my eyes have been getting more fixed-focus as I age, so using the three-dot sights while looking at the target was becoming impractical.

“One can easily make hits out to 50 yards with one.”

I don’t ever foresee a situation where I would need to shoot 50 yards with a concealed carry piece. You could just run for cover. If I ever have to use it for real I would be point shooting at a pretty close distance. An optic just seems like something else to catch or snag when you need it most. For me, it seems more something for hunters. But everyone needs to go with what works best for them.

“One can easily make hits out to 50 yards with one.”

Why?

When I went to Marine Corps Force Battalion School we only used the Mossberg 590 and at the time the .451911A1 - the school taught a modified Weaver, and we got a lot of trigger time. One thing that was stressed was that most pistol fights take place within 10 feet so we practiced at 10 feet and at less than 10 feet. The second thing they taught us is that the purpose of a pistol is to shoot your way to your shotgun, or rifle but this particular school which was designed for the embassy guard staff were only using pistols and shotguns because it was all meant to be indoor or compound scenarios. We also did a bit of bus and passenger aircraft simulations.

I wanted to verify that 10 foot information so I went to the internet and here’s what I found:

[WWW] “Tom Givens, most gunfights involving civilians and felons takes place at a distance of approximately three to five yards, approximately three and one-half rounds are fired, and no further shooting takes place after approximately three seconds.”

I don’t know Tom Givens. I hear that he’s credentialed and published (which is noteworthy for validation) as far as firearms training and formal instruction goes. And 3 to 5 yards is well within the ballpark of 10 feet so....

I’ll trust the gunny with what he stated,
“10 ft.”

I still workout with pistol using the 10ft rule in mind and I also rehearse shooting from an uphill position as if somebody was coming up a stairwell. Which is kind of a difficult shot when performed quickly and in haste with a pistol.

Also if you keep that 10 foot rule in mind or the 3 to 5 yards, whichever... it might even open up some other CCW choices.

I have a simple solution. If we can’t ban democrats, let’s at least prohibit democrats from owning guns. That by itself would eliminate most gun violence.
