People have always hung things like fuzzy dice, beads and air fresheners from their rear view mirrors. While annoying to look at, to each their own I guess.

But the most disturbing rear view mirror trend is those who have taken to dangling their disgusting face masks from the mirrors. Now that just totally grosses me out. You might as well be hanging your dirty underwear for all to see.

I don’t.
And I am sure my eyes have blinked millions of times since I was born. I have never lost sight at any time my eyes have blinked.

not once, in the multiple news stories I’ve seen or read about this incident, has ANYONE mentioned that this kid was trying to run.

NO ONE has said, “We have GOT to start teaching back kids to stop trying to run from police”.

THAT is what’s getting them killed.

<< Such minor infractions have been questioned by Black motorists and others who view them as a pretext for racially motivated traffic stops. >>

Then don’t hang stuff from your windows if you’re that worried about it. Not difficult. Also, don’t run away when caught with an illegal firearm in your car, and then fail to show up for your ZOOM court date. It’ll result in you being issued a bench warrant. But if you decide to ignore all that advice, don’t drive around with an outstanding warrant expecting not to get caught. And finally, if you are caught, definitely don’t flee the cops. Simple rules, easy to follow. For most people, at least.

Yeah, apparently he had two armed robbery charges as well, though I haven’t confirmed them by finding them in Hennipen County.

I have a Jeffery Epstein air freshener currently hanging from my rear view mirror. It says on it:

THIS AIR FRESHENER DID NOT HANG ITSELF

I’ve got a bunch of stuff hanging from the mirror. One time, I hung a game call on a lanyard. On a hard right turn, the call swung across the steering wheel and fell through. Locked it up. I don’t do that any more.

Use the air freshener that clips onto the heater / air conditioner vent.

“Obstructed view” laws have been on the books for decades. My college roommate and his GF got in trouble with the cops while driving(a warning ticket) by such a statute on a Sunday morning!

or the outstanding warrant.

for a firearms violation misdomeanor and fleeing the police. These things always get glossed over by these a holes trying to run a narrative. I am sure the net has been scrubbed by now so any reference to him being a bum have been excised too. I HATE these press pimps.

Or you have a pile of rotting French Fries under the driver’s seat, and you have bad BO.

What seems to be lost in this new era of attacks on police is that they have a duty to intercede when they see that a person is potentially dangerous to others. Whether it's a drug-crazed person fleeing in a vehicle, or someone running away while flashing a gun. The police are no longer just trying to apprehend the criminal, they are trying to end the danger posed to other innocent people.

In this latest case, I don't know if it was appropriate to shot a gun, or a taser. But I do know that the officer is entitled to a fair hearing.

You are probably just not aware that your vision is obstructed while you’re blinking because it happens so fast. But unless you’ve got a pair of transparent eyelids, or your eyes don’t fully close while you blink, or you’ve mastered the art of blinking one eyelid at a time, your vision is cut off, however briefly. (’Course, originally I was just speaking tongue-in-cheek, and still am a little bit).

I do agree with you and others 100% that he was probably resisting, aka fighting with the police, being a dumba**, etc., over simple, harmless instructions people always must comply with in their encounters with law enforcement, if we are to have a civil society.

So on my truck I have a plastic parking pass for my office parking garage and a GPS suction cupped to the window.

Getting pulled for that is the last of my concerns.

I virtually never go to the office but they haven’t asked for the pass back so I’m keeping it. There are about 150 employees and only 90 or so garage spaces. The rest park in overflow a block away. The overflow parkers get a couple extra days off as a bonus.

Couple of weeks before we moved from FL to MO, I got pulled over for not having a seat belt on and got a $113 ticket. Here in MO, they won’t pull you over for just a seat belt but they’ll give you a seat belt ticket if they pull you over for something else like speeding. The seat belt ticket here is $10.

As I understand it, this is pretty much SOP for LE. If they're bored or at least not busy at the moment they'll look for any excuse to "make contact" with you. Any minor traffic infraction will do - obstructed view from something hanging from a mirror; expired tags; failure to signal a turn or lane change; tail/brake light out; weaving/impaired (perceived); seatbelts not in use (some states, others no); etc.

The idea is, it is an excuse to stop you and check the driver's ID - just looking to see if they have any warrants. If the driver is a jerk, they may look for enough minor violations to make it worthwhile writing them up. If the driver is friendly they "get off with a warning" which really means whatever the initial infraction was the LEO doesn't care about, and you don't have any warrants etc. It is more or less the vehicular version of the beat cop stopping to shoot the breeze with passers by.

I've had several of these kinds of conversations with LE in my 40+ years of driving/riding on the street. I've never even gotten a warning - just short friendly conversations "Oh, that? I wasn't aware of that, thanks I'll take care of that right away." or some such. Honestly so much of a non-event I only barely remember them. One definitely was mud from some off-roading obscuring my license plate. Heck, the whole truck was "obscured" at that point ;-)...

I’m sure it’s lost on the CNN idiots, but DJT was all about DE-REGULATION.

EVERY little bit of this story has liberalism writ large. Unpunished criminals, petty bureaucratic rules, feminist ideology, affirmative action, woke mayor, woke police force . . . .

But their tacit root cause? Republican racism.

“We have GOT to start teaching back kids to stop trying to run from police”.

Follow the police officers instructions, don't do anything stupid, and you'll be alive to tell your side of the story to the judge.
