Police just released bodycam footage of the Daunte Wright shooting. The cop thought she was firing her Taser, not her gun.
Police have released bodycam footage of the shooting of Daunte Wright -- AKA the young man who was killed by police and who protesters are currently using the latest excuse to riot and loot.
The officer thought she had pulled her Taser. Not her gun. She thought she was tasing him, not shooting him. Watch for yourself [Warning: Graphic]:

She clearly yelled "I'll tase you!" and "Taser! Taser! Taser!" and was clearly shocked when she realized she just shot the guy.
The real blame belongs to the idiot politicians that thought anybody could be a cop.
So if George Floyd was worth $27 million, seeing as this kid is considerably younger, he’s probably worth about $40 million.
And you'll just get passed over for promotion for some woman or person of color.
I know people can do some strange things under stress, for even a poorly-trained officer to think she drew her Taser from (I presume) its cross-draw holster rather than her pistol from its strong-side holster is hard to fathom. But her surprise certainly sounded genuine.
Unless there’s some aggravating (something suggesting she actually intended to shoot the guy) or mitigating (evidence of grossly-inadequate training) evidence out there, it seems like there might be a good case for second-degree manslaughter here.
Trump’s fault, right?
He chose poorly. In so many of these cases, the people bring their fate upon themselves.
This is not to excuse the shooting. Let the legal process take its course. Just an observation, that the chain of events leading to his death, would not have happened if he had not chosen poorly.
It has happened several times.
That first cop has apparently literally ghosted and gone off the grid - apparently when authorities went to get some questions answered a year or so later, she’s just disappeared.
Agreed.
Obviously, the LEO made a grave mistake based on what we know now.
However, the place to "fight/resist" police is NOT in the street. It's in the courtroom.
Most Tazers are yellow or bright yellow and black and the grip and balance
are different. Dunno how much more different you want them to be.
Agree here, not anyone should be a cop, and training obviously has to thought out better here.
Minneapolis is 0 - 2 on cops good thinking in the past year.
Cops used to be trained in and skilled in defusing situations so that nobody got shot. It’s a lost art, apparently.
Kind of did it to herself, though. Didn’t notice that the thing she pulled wasn’t BRIGHT YELLOW AND BEEPING.
Woman that yelled taser sounded black.
I've wondered that for many years now. They all have a target on their backs and not just from the dregs of society.
"Work for one of the dozens of Fed.gov law enforcement agencies. After all, there is zero chance they will be defunded, or even investigated."
An excellent point.
Why do I suddenly get the vision of the black woman cop from the Police Academy movies.
“This your tazer and this your gun. You use one to kill and the other for fun...”
Maybe the academy instructor did that backwards...
Agree. And, this psychotic mentality will present itself in the military as well. Just might take a bit longer to see the disastrous affects.
“I think that happened somewhere on the west coast several years ago.”
True. Sadly, a fine young police man shot a black trouble maker with a pistol rather than a stun gun on the BART in San Francisco. Stun guns should be given a new shape to prevent mistakes.
Good LEO jobs are hard to get. Many deputies live in my county and commute to less desirable locales to work in law enforcement.
Watch the hands. She didn’t sound or look black to me.
