Police just released bodycam footage of the Daunte Wright shooting. The cop thought she was firing her Taser, not her gun.

Police have released bodycam footage of the shooting of Daunte Wright -- AKA the young man who was killed by police and who protesters are currently using the latest excuse to riot and loot.

The officer thought she had pulled her Taser. Not her gun. She thought she was tasing him, not shooting him. Watch for yourself [Warning: Graphic]:

WARNING GRAPHIC

Brooklyn Center, MN police release bodycam footage of the moments leading to the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Daunte Wright pic.twitter.com/Ig9CKQaBN0— Daily Caller (@DailyCaller) April 12, 2021

She clearly yelled "I'll tase you!" and "Taser! Taser! Taser!" and was clearly shocked when she realized she just shot the guy.

Might be nice if they redesigned the Taser so it didn’t operate like a firearm. Maybe instead of a trigger a button on the back of the Taser?

The problem with that idea is that it would require training.

And lots of it.

Most police departments don’t have huge training budgets.

Even with human factoring built in to tasers you would still have shootings like this one because of the stress and adrenaline rush involved in situations like this one.

When adrenaline hits your brain, it goes to instinct and repetitively preformed actions. This is why soldiers and sailors train, train and train again for the worst possible eventualities.

When the stuff hits the fan, you don’t have time to think about what you are going to do. You have to already know by instinct what to do.

But police departments go cheap on training and unfortunately this kind of thing is a direct result.

“What chaos...Instead of hiring street savvy men who can physically take care of themselves and are trainable,”

Many years ago I worked as a reserve police officer in a small town. Half of the department were hot shot young guys who were going to a major university in the area on their off time to get their criminal justice degrees. Just about all them wanted to be feds but there was a hiring freeze in the government at the time. There was one who did get hired by the U.S. Marshals; a female dispatcher, a quota hire. That’s when I learned about affirmative action. They passed over guys with several years of street experience for a dispatcher.

The Building Austin Policing Crisis

Many of the cities that defunded police last year in a fit of social justice warrior-endorsed madness have reversed course once crime rates started spiraling. But Austin’s hard-left City Council seems stuck on stupid.
After the Austin police budget cut on top of the repeal of the public camping ban, Austin crime and disorder has gotten measurably worse. Austin police are also leaving in droves:
After the Austin city council voted unanimously to defund its police department by about one-third of its budget, in August 2020, many predicted that once the cuts kicked in a flood of officers would leave the force as soon as they could. The new district attorney’s policy of re-investigating police officers for closed cases is also expected to cause officers to resign or retire.
The city council’s cuts officially kicked in and have been in place for a few months.
PJ Media reports exclusively that APD is now suffering a huge surge of officer departures putting it on pace to shatter 2020’s record.

To: Think free or die

Several things went wrong prior to the shooting... The arresting officer could not get the cuffs on the dude, he was fumbling around.
Then, the woman walks up and says that there are warrants out on the guy, before making sure he was secured.

My gramps was a cop. He once asked me who the most dangerous man in the world is.
Answer, a man that’s got nothing to lose.

The woman set the whole thing in motion by making the perp realize he had nothing to lose.

The entire incident is a giant lesson in don’t let this happen to you.

I thought 2020 was bad enough, but I have a feeling the worst is yet to come this year and beyond. The left is nearly at the finish line in winning the war for control over the country. I can’t help now but feeling a sense of gloom over our future as a nation.

“ Clearly a mistake. I feel for her, but she unjustly took a life, and will probably be convicted for that mistake.”

Supposedly a senior officer. What’s she been doing all these years?

Yep, it’s been going on a long time now. “Women and minorities encouraged to apply”. Obviously they have quotas as they publicly announce and broadcast who they want to hire.

Standards are a joke. Hire the weaker and slower at all costs.

From the video, the other two officers were carrying their tasers in crossdraw holsters on their left hips. From that, I suspect that’s department policy. As a result I’m not sure she was carrying both on the same hip/close to each other. I think she just completely screwed up.

Cops used to *deliberately* kill people with those. Also, the advent of widespread HIV over and above all else means that the nightstick is dangerous *to the officers*.

Like many senior officers (of either sex) she probably was slacking off on/avoiding training.

They tried that for a few models. Turned out the cops couldn’t hit anything with them.

Many moons ago before EEOC, big hulking guys were actively sought out to staff departments for several obvious advantages. Big officers helped give incentive to potential troublemakers to behave, and in the event they didn't the officers could give as good as they got. Back in the heyday of bars, lounges and nightclubs such officers were quite handy when it came to dealing with belligerent drunks and the sort of havoc they could set off.

This police officer will probably go the way of Mohammed Noor.

Maybe (for visual identification purposes) she would have preferred a gun with a flared barrel...

If that is departmental policy...and she was wearing her taser on the opposite hip from her duty weapon...then she really really messed up and will be charged with manslaughter as least. And she should be so charged. Police just cannot make that type of mistake. I can comprehend such a mistake if the taser is on the same hip or close to the duty weapon...but not if it was cross-body.

Per this: https://www.kare11.com/article/news/local/brooklyn-center-police-shooting-daunte-wright-protests/89-00f84fad-9304-4d63-bc3b-1a97e93f9276

“Police Chief Tim Gannon on Monday said that he believes the officer who shot Wright during the traffic stop accidentally discharged her firearm. He said he believes the officer, who’s now on administrative leave, meant to fire a Taser.”

Gannon walked reporters and community members through his interpretation of the bodycam footage Monday.

“As you can hear, the officer, while struggling with Mr. Wright, shouts ‘Taser, Taser’ several times. That is part of the officer’s training prior to deploying a Taser, which is a less lethal device,” he said. “That is done to make her partners aware, as well as the subject, that a Taser deployment will be imminent.”

Gannon said the officer instead drew their handgun.

He explained that officers are trained to keep their handguns on their dominant side, and their Taser on their “weak side.”

“As I watch the video and listen to the officer’s commands, it is my belief that the officer had the intention to deploy their Taser, but instead shot Mr. Wright with a single bullet,” Gannon said.”

So, from the above we can confirm that that department’s officers are trained to carry the Taser on their opposite hip. This implies that this is department policy, though it is not explicitly stated as such.

That was my first thought too. Taser should be a different color & different shape in the hand. Muscle memory would help prevent this.
