I mailed an old friend some usb drives with audio and pdf and word doc files. She is even more of a techtard than I am and cannot plug usbs into the only devices she has, which are an Iphone and Ipad. I am trying to assist her long distance to access the info I sent her and have searched to no avail as I do not even know the model numbers of her devices, or whatever they're called. If knowing the model numbers would help I can get them from her.
So..does anyone know if there is some device that can have usbs plugged in to be able to listen to audio? Or read on?
Any helpful ideas very welcome. This is my oldest friend and she is going in for surgery in a couple of weeks and being able to listen, and read from a device, would be very helful for her.
Yes, you can get an apple adapter, there are 2 models, one lightning and one usb.
they are very cheap.

or

one of these will work for her/
A computer.
or this ?
but you might want to look for something like this
there are a wide variety and sometimes it is easier to have dedicated devices.
Thank you very much! Saving all your links.
Because I know absolutely nothing about Apple stuff, will these work with an Ipad that does not have a usb port?
Do any Ipods have a usb port? I know that usbs are now spurned and newer computers don’t even have them, from what I’ve heard.
The easy fix. Use your machine and send her the files as attachments in email. All she has to do is open the attachment to access the file.
She’s not a techtard. You sent her devices which cannot be plugged into the personal devices she has. That would make you the techtard.
Correction:
Do any IpAds have a usb port? I know that usbs are now spurned and newer computers don’t even have them, from what I’ve heard.
Just so I’m clear - the devices above that have a usb port on one end, have smaller connections that will all fit into Ipod? I have never held any apple thing in my hand and can’t see hers so just make double sure. I’d even buy one and send it to her but have to make sure it will work.
Sounds like she has has legacy devices, or her software is way out of date. USB drives are a common storage device that fits most anything for some years. I’ve transferred all you say from computer to my recent computer just using those thumb drives. There’s a problem on her end.
Well, aren’t you kindly and helpful.
Her husband has a laptop with usb port and I was hoping he could figure out how to get the files onto her devices but he has no time and no tech ability.
Thank you so much for your assistance.
Her Ipod and Iphone have no usb ports, for some reason and they’re also not new. If she lived nearby it would be a lot easier for me to figure this out. She has a smart apple tech son who is dealing with aftermath of cancer and can’t help at this point.
Ipad have a proprietary jack. USB does not fit. You either get an adapter or send it through email
Right, someone’s already got it I believe, if I understand your question... You need an adapter cable that’ll allow you to go from a device using one USB generation on its motherboard to a different device that uses a different generation USB. Is that right? Is that what you are trying to do? Amazon’s got adapter cables, and YouTube has instruction videos, one of which might be exactly what you need to understand it all.
I have such crappy internet speed I can’t send her the audio files. Could the word and pdf files, bit by bit; I may have to do that.
Yeah, usb port on one end, and other end to stick into an Ipod and/or Iphone that has no USB port, but I assume some kind of port. I guess I’ll need the model or other kind of number on her phone and Ipod.
newer I-devices have a usb type C port.
older ones have a “lightning” port.
the first 2 devices allow you to go from usb-C or Lightning to a headphone jack
the 2nd device should allow you to copy things from usb to an apple device through the lightning port

Thank you! It’s starting to gel in my mind now... much obliged for your help.
I didn't know that, but then I've been android/MS all my computer life. How can Apple not provide a USB port? It is such a common mobile data transfer device nowadays. They could always make download a price point in their software if they want more money.
How much data are we talking? A month of audio 24/7 isnt all that big. Throwing all the stuff up on a Google Drive (I know I hate google too) or one of the other free services would allow the stuff to be opened from the ipad and iphone with no problems. Eliminates the need for her to do anything special other than to click in a link you can email her. These services are pretty idiot proof and you can put a load of audio up there along with docs and pdf, etc. Video is what takes up room.
