Let's say I wanted to build a small web site to try and make a small stab against wokeness.
In the past, I'd have probably registered a domain with Godaddy, and then either rented some hosting space or thrown up my own server.
In a rural area and it's hard enough to get a reliable DSL - and I need to stay on the good side of my ISP since I use it for work. So short of renting some commercial space in town and trying to get a business internet connection, it looks like I'd have to use a hosting company.
Are there any companies out there who still believe in freedom of speech? Where's a good place to register a domain and maybe rent some hosting space and get some basic email? Seems I've heard there are still some Swiss companies that haven't swallowed the woke koolaid. Anyone have some positive experiences to share?
Are there any ad services besides Google anymore? Or is there some way to easily self-host ads. How about crowd-source funding? Any orgs left that aren't going to cancel me as soon as a pink-hair gets xir panties in a twist?
Doing my own research in the background, but if any FReepers have positive experiences in these areas that might benefit me, post 'em up.
I was just suggesting google ads, if the OP wanted advertising. Which I think the OP didn’t want to use. I just know they are fairly easy to implement for a novice. But your point is well taken.
What is wrong with the internet indeed. You can’t even own your own domain. Reminds me of the story - there was a guy who’s name was Nissan so he locked up Nissan.com early in the game. Idiot refused a very big offer from Nissan motors. 7 figures. I think he wanted 8 figures. Nissan just registered themselves a different domain, then sued Nissan for promoting cars on his website. So what is wrong with the internet, same thing that is wrong with the world I guess.
I was making an assumption: That the content was developed and tested in detail on a "dev server" e.g. local workstation (which is how I do mine).
Since my AWS production servers are all Linux, I have a Linux VM with Apache, same version as the production server. When it comes time to deploy, it's just an "rsync" to the cloud and some light testing to make sure I didn't forget an IP address change or something. That's what I was referring to.
Nobody I know develops, deploys, and tests on their production server -- that's what the "dev server" is for. Using a local workstation for development is quite handy. :-)
FWIW, Microsoft has remained relatively quiet on the woke front, even though they support leftist causes. (Bill Gates left MS years ago.)
Domain registration can be done almost anywhere. Go to the IANA and looking for registrars. I use Hover, personally. You do not need to host with the same company where you register.
As far as ads, I’m 99% sure most advertising goliaths are going to be woke. You might have a hard time on this one.
I get it... Just about all hosting servers now run Linux Apache so that is kind of standardized. Myself I wish there was some kind of standard to website scripts. Man what a unique mess each one is. Each one is like having to learn a whole new protocol every time you load up a new one. lol
I have played with about 200 boxed scripts over that last ten years and no two are even close to being similar in design. Each one is a whole new learning experience. Each one is starting all over. So I understand the difference of dev. But for some one doing this for themselves they are going to have the dev mess aside from the server mess. :)
Thank you for sharing that, I could see that happening. It just makes me so mad that so many have fallen for the brainwashing and scam that “You have to get Google services”.
No you don’t, all of it can be replaced with your own stuff, or other provider’s stuff, Or NONE. And most are even open source for free rather than services like “Google Analytics”. Google analytics is the premier spy tool out there despite what they claim. Absolutely no way would I have it connected as a 3rd party service. Not if I respected my user’s privacy.
It is time to boycott and De-Google period, or they will own the net forever... It is easy... Just say no. I did it on my site for ten years and actually lived through it. How about that political incorrectness? :)
In my experience, I think most hosting companies don’t pay attention to what you are doing unless it is criminal. Most have all sorts of objectionable stuff in the form of porn or quasi-scammers, or even others trying to do spamming just below the threshold to be a violation of TOS. If all you is political stuff, hosting generally won’t screw with you, and most hosts will do your domain for you too.
Now a word of warning. There is a secret society out there, embedded throughout our society which runs everything. Think of it like the CIA put together a civilian informant/surveillance network kind of like what the Stasi ran. They also run pretty formidable intel outfits embedded in all communities. Some people know about them, some find out the hard way.
When Governor David Patterson took over New York from Elliot Spitzer, he held an emergency press conference a couple of hours after taking office, and proceeded to announce two guys walked into his office past his security, and proceeded to tell him they had him under surveillance for 30 years, documented everything embarrassing, they reeled off a list of his highlights, and told him he was now going to be a puppet of their organization.
He proceeded to stand with his wife, and list every incidence of drug usage, every affair and embarrassing detail for the last 30 years, and said he wasn’t going to be anybody’s puppet. Then eleven other state legislators stepped forward and said they had the same thing happen. The media refused to discuss it at any length, refused to investigate a Governor of one of the most populated states saying he was illegally surveilled for decades and blackmailed, and it all got swept under the carpet. A few years later Cuomo ousted him with fake investigations, and he was gone.
Google “Tom Bauerle surveillance” for another case. Scalia talked about the entire Supreme Court being under it before he “died”. Michael Hastings was apparently killed by his coverage, and there have been many, many more cases. Then there was Ed Buck, whose neighbor would periodically call him in the middle of the day to tell him he needed to drink more water or take his medicine, because he was watching him in his house, according to witnesses. It is a lot weirder than a normal person would think possible, and even weirder, all these people you see as personalities know all about it, and are often in the club, but none ever say anything.
If you begin talking about politics, they will move in. Your neighbors will change, you will notice people rushing into parking lots to follow you into grocery stores, and you will frequently be boxed in by cars everywhere you go on the roads. That is your local network being told to expose itself to let you know you need to play ball. They apparently want to control all the outlets out there, and if you are not with them, they will make it uncomfortable for you, even if you don’t have a massive audience.
I would never have believed it, but I started a website, and found out the hard way.
I don’t want to tell you not to open up a site, and fight the good fight. We need honest voices out there. But it gets irritating with people listening in your house and driving by every time you exit your front door to go in the front yard.
You should have a degree of mental toughness going in, and an understanding you are going to see things which will change you and your view of America forever. There are things going on far beyond a normie’s ability to believe. And of course if you have deep, dark secrets, I assume you can expect them to be documented and to be blackmailed, and turned into a Mitt Romney type.
I just believe in telling people what I wish I had known about. You can believe it or not.
Their rates are very good and their support (via email) has never let me down.

Sign up with Bluehost. Best thing. Great support!
I was online with my web site and had email setup in like 30 minutes.
Thunderbird email is lightning fast.
Bluehost <— sign up with them
https://www.bluehost.com
Example of the email I tried to send:
Joe Biden & Hunter Biden are father and son pedophiles.
Big mistake was to have GoDaddy host.
GoDaddy does not support email programs like Thunderbird. They do not block email like HostPapa does. They support Microsofts Office 365 and Outlook but just do not say it is preferred. I had the settings correct for Thunderbird but it was slow as molasses in sending or receiving. Timing out many times. I spent a 3-4 hours in chat support (India) and 1 phone call over the 3 weeks where I was told to switch to Outlook. I had GoDaddy for 3 weeks then quit them as a host after that call. I do use them to park my domains. I can switch over to Bluehost but they are just parked and not active at GoDaddy. .
Parlor got screwed by using AWS, IIRC. Might have been GCP, but the two are equivalent as far as wokeness
Epic. com hosts Gab. com.
