Can anyone tell me when, in other cases, evidence was ordered to be destroyed? in ANY case before? I never heard such a thing.

I don’t understand the protective order. What court issued it, in what context, at what party’s request? And, perhaps most importantly, what evidence does it cover?
There was Seth-Rich-related litigation in which it was Fox News, not the government, that was seeking a protective order. Apparently, however, the motion by Fox News was denied.
The linked article is very uninformative on this crucial aspect.
