Actual cost to manufacture American pick-up trucks
http://Freerepublic.com ^ | 04/04/2021 | Vanity

Posted on 04/04/2021 2:11:40 PM PDT by LibertyWoman

I'm considering buying a new pick-up. Why new? Because it will most likely be the last vehicle I'll ever buy and I want it to last.

So, I was looking at Ford F150s last night and my jaw dropped. One of the trucks was priced at $66,000!! For crying out-loud! $66K?? The one I liked the best was priced at $49,000! I'm in real estate and you can buy property cheaper!

I thought perhaps some of the more experienced, wiser freepers could answer this question: Just how much does it actually cost to manufacture/produce one of these? (Or any other model for that matter)

Finally, I do realize government b.s. regulations factor in to the cost but I can't imagine regulations causing such obscene pricing.

Thanks in advance.

A lot of the reason for the higher price is due to the fact that most people don’t really care what the sticker price is, they care about can they afford the monthly payment, if they can the price could be $100,000 and it might not slow people down....

Why I never buy new vehicles. It’s robbery. All my vehicles are old, but well maintained and run perfect.

Don’t what it costs to manufacture but know the sale price is out of my budget. Looked at a new Nissan 4-door Frontier PU: $38,000. No thanks. I’ll find a good used PU for a fraction of that and then drive it until the wheels fall off.

Typical cost to manufacture to retail price is 1 to 10. IOW if it is $66K the cost to make it was $6.6.K. However for certain things that highly subsidized like a Tesla the cost to manufacture is more than retail.

I’m driving a 1997 Jeep Wrangler sport. Going on 200K miles. $15K new. I’m freaking floored at the pricing.

When pick-ups started outselling most passenger cars even in recession years(especially when more comfortable single and double cabs loaded with features became the rage), the car company’s saw an opportunity to raise prices.

I would like a pick-up for hauling but at this point used minivans would do what I would need a pick-up for...and at much cheaper prices.

Wages have not kept up and it’s going to get worse. Middle class has been hallowed out. Top 20% doing well.

Our country is now the haves and have nots and the have not crowd is growing each year.

Watched a show last night on RT TV and a famous billionaire who owns Cartier said billionaires confess to him they cannot sleep at night thinking a revolution is going to come soon...he said they are scared sh&tless.

If you can find one that came off lease with reasonably low mileage, you’ll get a better deal. Be willing to wait and shop around and get rid of the Instant Gratification syndrome.

I bought my last new one in 16.

The battles of the jeeps and blazer go one.

I got my CJ7 powder-coated tub back Friday and it has some parts and pieces back on. Lots of little things.

The tub has a few flaws but nothing the average person would catch or even care about. This isn’t Jay Leno’s level perfection.

I got the powder-coating guys to look at the 65 Willys tub. They were impressed with how good a shape it is. It will need patches and a few welds.

K5 will sort of run. It will probably the last to become roadworthy.

Best to buy a low mileage used model.
Once you drive a new car off the lot you’ve lost money on it.
In fact if you drive less than 10,000 miles per year you’re might be better off with a lease.

Just how much does it actually cost to manufacture/produce one of these?

Hundreds of millions of dollars.

Where are you planning to set up your manufacturing facility?

Sadly even used trucks and SUVs are still pricey.

A friend of mine used to deal in used cars. Buy them at auctions, get them running right and sell them. Said Soetero destroyed the used car market and why they still get the prices they do.

That hasn’t been true in automobiles in about 40 years

Cost to manufacturer a modern car is around 80% of sticker, roughly, if not higher

Trucks sell for a premium because of demand is stupid high on them, every guy or gal thinks they need one with 4 wheel drive. That is why

I also would never buy a ford or GM anything, total garbage these days

I’d really like to know what it actually costs. No freaking way is there $66,000 worth of material and labor there. The mark up has to be outlandish.
