Humans understood astronomy 40000 years ago, European caves provide proof

According to a scientific study, 40,000-year-old cave paintings indicate the use of complex astronomy.

According to experts, the ancient paintings that were believed to be symbols of prehistoric animals are actually ancient star maps.

Early cave art reveals that people in the last ice age had a detailed knowledge of the night sky. They were hardly different from us today in terms of intellect. Animal symbols represent star constellations in the night sky.

A new scientific study revealed that humans had a sophisticated knowledge of stars and constellations more than 40,000 years ago. Ancient star maps

Scientists have revealed that ancient humans controlled the passage of time by watching how stars change positions in the sky.

The ancient works of art, found in many places in Europe, are not simply representations of wild animals, as previously thought.

Instead, animal symbols represent constellations of stars in the night sky. They are used to represent dates, marking events like asteroid collisions, explains a new study published by the University of Edinburgh.

Wow....
Please explain to me what method you used to date the cave art?
Also how do you know that it’s just not cave art and has nothing to do with the stars?

"They were hardly different from us today in terms of intellect"

Present day humans haven't changed much in the last 200,000 yeas. But why the sudden explosion of civilizations occurring only a few thousand years ago? I think there's a lot more to prehistory than we currently know.

Mainstream science finally accepting this notion which has long been held by many (Hancock, Farrell, Silva, etc., etc., etc.) outside of the strict academic viewpoint mainstream? Color me surprised. /s

Religion. Ever hear about any new Civilization that did not have any religion? Religion provided people with the basis for a rule of law . It got people to work together rather than fight each other.

I’d guess that the person of median-intelligence now is intellectually inferior to the median European cave dweller of tens of thousands of years ago. My rationale for this is that stupid people have it a lot easier these days. There are all sorts of social safety nets in place keeping the dim and dull alive and reproducing and voting Democrat. Back in the day, folks had to get by on their wits, and if you weren’t very bright, your chances of surviving were diminished.

As intelligent as us today, and they lived in caves and threw spears at wild animals. Got it.

Possibly. I think religion had far more beneficial aspects to history than most atheists will tell you. But I’ve always read that it was agriculture that triggered the development of cities and therefore civilizations. Only it was a hard sell: people didn’t go for it in great numbers because they preferred the hunter-gatherer existence. Once it caught on, however, it was impossible to compete with any civilization that had adopted it, because of the greater populations it could support. So it spread by necessity. But I still think there is more to it that needs explaining.

Based on my opinion of the average Democrat, you make sense. How can they be so easily fooled by those who give them shiny promises but in action are so obviously corrupt? They are there just to acquire money and power, but their brainwashed followers are so hypnotized by their TV’s that they can’t see it. Baffles me.

A man 4000 years ago is smarter than the occupant of the White House.

#9. Re “As intelligent as us today, and they lived in caves and threw spears at wild animals. Got it”.

As Bob Hope might have said in an old movie, “Oh, you mean Democrats” “or “Oh, you mean like in So. Chicago and Portland”.

#2. Can’t raise the article but cave art might be “aged” by an electronic probe of the paints’ constituent ingredients, esp. if they were organic.

Archaeologists would also carbon-date materials found on the caves’ floor, going down in depth until they hit barren layers with no manmade items (pottery, bones from meals, carbonized wood for cooking/heating, etc).

That would give us a “range” of possible cave art periods or times, depending on the quality of the carbon-dating materials and methods used.

[Plus, there might be a date provided by the artist, on the cave walls, such as “Grog, 35,000 BC]. /Sarc

An old archaeologist’s joke.

Pre-agriculture civilization with no industrialization. Look up the description of tools and weapons found on Otzi the iceman who they found frozen in ice from 5,300 years ago. Could you have made any of these yourself?
