The “Flynn Effect” is the phenomenon identified by intelligence researcher James Flynn. He found that average intelligence quotients, or IQ’s, as measured by standardized tests were steadily increasing through the course of the 20th century.
That sounds quite natural because, after all, each generation gets better nurturing. They get better health, improved medical care, more nutritious food and greater schooling.
But IQ is supposed to be mainly about nature, not nurture. Nurturing can certainly affect a person’s well-being, but in theory it doesn’t change a person’s IQ much (except of course when the nurturing is so bad that it produces negative neurological effects).
Flynn and other scientists puzzled for years over the reasons we kept getting smarter. Even as scientists themselves along with everyone else got smarter and smarter, they still never managed to figure out why.
Now they have a reverse Flynn Effect to figure out. In recent decades, average IQ’s have gone down, not up. For those of you who are personally experiencing this reverse effect, I’ll put it in simple terms: People are getting stupider....

It’s an Idiocracy Effect.
There have been a few studies revealing that the more the brain is used, the better it works. And the less that it is used,... (see senility studies, Alzheimer’s).
Add to that, hookups (hasty mate choices, bad boys, drugs), populations migrating in, etc.

I don't remember now when I first heard about this alleged dumbification, but until that time it was always said that African Americans were also enjoying the general rise in IQs, though starting from a lower level, there was hope they'd eventually catch up.
Now we're told that people generally are getting dumber, but which people exactly, and how much dumber?
Are all groups falling equally, or are some falling faster than others?
Which groups have continued to get smarter while the rest of us grow more... ah... age related forgetful?

I'd blame automatic word completion.
I've never felt stupider than when I let my allegedly smart cell phone insert its own words over mine.
Unless the Germans have changed drastically since I was last there (long ago), their system would not be tolerated in any US school system.
What Germans and most other countries do is very early on, at young ages, identify which children have serious academic promise.
Those get special educations in different schools, the best their countries can offer.
Everybody else gets the average-kids education and neither competes with nor is tested against international standards.
Americans are the only country that tries to keep all its public education kids together in one school and in the same classes.
The result is, on international comparisons, our average kids measure poorly against other countries' advanced-education kids.
But even within US public school systems there are huge differences in test scores from one to another, depending on what kinds of kids go there.
Bottom line: alleged changes in overall IQ are more likely to represent differences in exactly who is being tested and how.
Supposably, Warshington were are smartest President.

This seems to make sense to me....more intelligent couples have fewer children, lower IQ people have lots of kids.... generalization, I know, but still an observation that anyone can see....
I wonder what genius it took to come to this conclusion?
Government becoming a nanny and protecting citizens so they don’t have to use their intelligence to avoid harm and to survive and prosper. Education totally discourages thinking. Government pays people to be stupid and indolent and taxes creative geniuses mercilessly.
You state that idiots reproduce faster than geniuses. That, plus more intelligent people nowadays live selfishly and have fewer children, if any.
An educator I know told me at the beginning of covid last year that they could An not teach any new material remotely because equity required all the children be at THE SAME LEVEL and with remote learning they could not be sure. Harrison Bergeron now exists.
