It's easy to guess the states people are leaving. Can you guess the top states where people are headed?
The above numbers are on a percentage basis of inbound to outbound moves, not absolute numbers.
The report is from North American Moving Services.
People are fleeing California for Texas and Idaho
Illinois, New York, and New Jersey are the three states with the most outbound moves.
The top five inbound states in 2020 are Idaho, Arizona, Tennessee, South Carolina, and North Carolina, with Tennessee overtaking South Carolina from the 2019 results.
Florida, Texas, and Colorado round out the top eight states for inbound moves.
Despite pandemic, people continued to move at rates comparable to 2019
Phoenix
Houston
Dallas
Atlanta
Denver
New York
Anaheim, Calif.
San Diego
Chicago
Riverside, Calif.
I am disappointed the report did not have absolute numbers, making the study flawed.
Nonetheless, Idaho is interesting.
Idaho has made the top 10 each year since 2015, most of the time on the top of the list.
Congratulations to Idaho and of course Illinois in reverse, a state I have written about many times.
Q: Why does it take 3 weeks to leave Illinois?
A: Everyone is leaving and that is how long it took to schedule a one-way van out.
"Everyone is leaving. No one is coming," a U-Haul agent told us.
We love it here in Utah. The photo opportunism are endless. There are 7 national parks within 5 hours or so of where we live.
I live in DeKalb IL and was just looking at prices in Covington and Crawfordsville, IN. The prices and especially the real estate taxes looked pretty good to me. Probably a matter of perspective, I guess.
“Red states are SCREWED! OOOHHHH BBOOOYYY!”
Just ask Colorado! The whole swimming pool is being pissed in.
In TN I would suggest Loudon County.
Absolutely don’t come to Alabama. Just red necks and hicks here. We barely speak English and don’t like yankees. The climate sucks. It can snow in the northern part and you get all that humidity from the Gulf. We are next door to Mississippi.
The solution for the states that people are leaving is to raise taxes on those remaining. * you know that is the plan!
Nextdoor.com I saw postings about my area of Chatsworth, Canoga Park, Calif where people were complaining about the electric rates of $1,200 + for 2 months. They are saying double what they had been paying.
People posted their bills and that they complained and complained but nothing. One guy got a tv station involved and managed to get a $700+ refund. I think electric rates are at least .19/cents a kw
The electric company is estimating and not reading the meter.
They use software to estimate in their favor.
The electric company manager the tv station contacted said he would talk to them but ducked away at last moment and a spokesman said that the lawyers said not to comment. You know this is stolen money by the democrats. Most for pensions and the rest to pay for other pet projects. Not for fixing the power lines and transformers that spark fires. Their solution is to turn off power to hundreds of thousands of people.
Moved back home to KY when hubby retired, and started consulting. I’m partial to Louisville but that’s where we grew up. The only reason was to be near my elderly mother. Bowling Green is a college town, and Lexington and Louisville are liberal. Tennessee has no income tax, but a higher sales tax. We have considered that. Daughter is in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. They have considered moving out of MI, but her husband would have to take another job within the company. People here are moving east out of the county.
Down stater means just about everywhere outside of metro shitcago except for a few filthy college, union and minority areas so these are mostly conservative people.
My grandmother (who passed away shortly before her 100th birthday) said that living so long was not all it was cracked up to be. Grandpa was quite ready to go after the last small stroke left him so shaky that he was unable to enjoy any of the pastimes which he loved.
Now that I am 65 and subjected beyond argument to the satrapy of globalism, I "get" how a person views longevity with mixed emotions.
“I think most of the people fleeing aren’t the ones responsible for those messed up states”
Disagree, look at WA, OR, AZ, NV, and now TX
+1
We will be moving from the western burbs to Tennessee or SC. I need to be near a major airport for work so Nashville and York County, SC near Charlotte are our preferences. Lots of MN folks I know getting serious about getting out.
About 15 years ago we’d planned to move to from CA to Idaho or the northwest. As we got a bit older, we decided cold sucks, winters are too damn cold and long in the Northwest/Idaho.
So we went to Arizona! It was the right decision,
Some honest advice. When people tell ya weather isn’t everything, they’re flat out lying. Especially for the folks on the older side.
Stay the F out of Idaho. Cali and Washington plates everywhere. My little slice of heaven. Houses once selling for 75k are getting snatched up at 350 to 400. Now with covid allowing them to work from home they still get their high pay and have spare time to start “improving” the state and local condition since we’re all a bunch of backward hicks. They are a metastasizing cancer.
“Don’t vote for what you fled.”
Is there any proof of this? What with all the voter fraud how could anyone know that these people are voting liberal? What with all the voter fraud why would it matter? If all of them voted conservative by a five to one margin, how would you know? How would that stop the voting machines? How would that make it more difficult for the manufacturers of ballots?
All respect to you patriot. I do not correct you except to say you are slow in letting your thinking pivot to a new strategy.
Why on earth would you say, “We love it here in Utah. The photo opportunism are endless. There are 7 national parks within 5 hours or so of where we live.”
I don’t want any new residents from CA, WA, OR. or any of the states mentioned. I keep meeting people who recently moved to Utah from CA that pay cash for homes, drive up prices and then tell me we need more Starbucks. SLC is already a Democrat cesspool and it’s spreading.
Guess where the new 150,000 a year “refugees” will be installed. How many illegals will be Texas residents when the democrats give them citizenship. How many democrats move there every year. Only 600,000 more democrat votes and it is gone. The democrats know it and they are ruthless.
