It's easy to guess the states people are leaving. Can you guess the top states where people are headed?
The above numbers are on a percentage basis of inbound to outbound moves, not absolute numbers.
The report is from North American Moving Services.
People are fleeing California for Texas and Idaho
Illinois, New York, and New Jersey are the three states with the most outbound moves.
The top five inbound states in 2020 are Idaho, Arizona, Tennessee, South Carolina, and North Carolina, with Tennessee overtaking South Carolina from the 2019 results.
Florida, Texas, and Colorado round out the top eight states for inbound moves.
Despite pandemic, people continued to move at rates comparable to 2019
Phoenix
Houston
Dallas
Atlanta
Denver
New York
Anaheim, Calif.
San Diego
Chicago
Riverside, Calif.
I am disappointed the report did not have absolute numbers, making the study flawed.
Nonetheless, Idaho is interesting.
Idaho has made the top 10 each year since 2015, most of the time on the top of the list.
Congratulations to Idaho and of course Illinois in reverse, a state I have written about many times.
Q: Why does it take 3 weeks to leave Illinois?
A: Everyone is leaving and that is how long it took to schedule a one-way van out.
"Everyone is leaving. No one is coming," a U-Haul agent told us.
We love it here in Utah. The photo opportunism are endless. There are 7 national parks within 5 hours or so of where we live.
Looking for new nests to foul.
My prior home is on the first list, and my current home is on the second. I escaped in the nick of time and had a smooth landing. Whew.
What’s the best areas to move to in South Dakota?
This really ticks me off. Bunch of arseholes with no self awareness, fleeing their mess.
Yup. I’m sure some are conservatives looking to go to a more conservative state, but the danger is in the numbers.
Far too many are clueless tools, who go along to get along, and are not politically inclined who come election season, vote for the cutest guy/gal and the most virtue signalling candidate who just REALLY cares about people.
Houston and Dallas
That is a yuge problems
Liberal refugees, don’t vote for what you fled.
Stay away from Idaho! It’s a horrible place. Nothing but potatoes, long cold winters, gray skies, and filled with racists. Nope, not reason to move there. None at all. Stay out!
Liberals are the dumbest people in the world, of course they are going to vote the same way.
Hopefully there are equal amounts of Americans moving to these States to counterbalance the dem/prog stupidity.
Yup. They’re taught since kindergarten that Conservative = White Supremacist, Misogynistic, Homophobes and only voting democrat can assuage their white-skinned guilt.
They continue to get this propaganda shoved into their heads every time they turn on Hulu, NetFlix, American Idol, etc.
Not necessarily true. There are lots of good, conservative people fleeing the shithole states.
And bringing along the unfortunate voting habits that ruined the places they fled.
We are moving in the spring from St.Paul. I have been planning the move for years, to happen after I retire; now I have.
Looking primarily at Kentucky and Tennessee, Bowling Green and Knoxville areas the most likely. Wife wants a not so small town, I want a not so big. I reserved moving equipment almost a year ago with destination unknown.
We’re going to take another look around in a few weeks and make a decision. Freeper suggestions are welcome.
RE: Stay away from Idaho! It’s a horrible place.
You’re from California, what do you care about Idaho?
Well, there are a lot of conservatives leaving blue for red. We moved from Illinois to Missouri a few months ago, doing our part to keep Missouri red. Unfortunately, there are also a lot of liberals fleeing Illinois who take their stupid voting habits with them.
Huge numbers of people are moving to small, mostly rural - but free - South Dakota too.
Alabama, too! Everyone here marries their sister, sics German Shepherds on innocent black people, and lives in a trailer with a Camaro up on blocks in the weed-strewn front yard. 5th grade is considered graduate school.
And it’s so hot and humid all Summer you’d melt. No outside jogging and walking is possible.
Miami......................................
Learn about taxes before you go and keep in mind that kentucky voted in liberal democrat as governor. We moved to tennessee from Pennsylvania a couple years ago. Our overall tax burden dropped by about 80%. Property tax declined the most dropping from 3600 per year to 600 per year. Sales tax is higher here but not by much. When combined with fuel tax and utility costs we reduced our cost of living substantially.
