Is the GOP Still the Party of Donald Trump?
National Interest ^ | 1/22/2021 | Rachel Bucchino

Experts also expect to see some form of a primary challenge due to the intra-party divisions.

“I expect we'll see primary challengers for at least some of the Republicans that voted to impeach Trump, and perhaps even for some of those who voted against impeachment but for certifying the electoral college results,” Fong said. “I think it's too early to say whether those challenges will be particularly dangerous or not. On the one hand, it's always unpleasant to face a primary challenger who can run on a simple, salient message like, ‘He opposed Trump; I'm for Trump.’ On the other hand, a lot can happen in a year and a half. Tempers can cool. New issues can rise to dominate the agenda.”

The time is now for a clean break. The Dems hold all houses and the Presidency. Donald Trump needs to form the Patriot party and 75million of us need to follow him. I will never vote for the feckless GOP again. F them!

No, the GOP is the party of Biden/Harris. It’s not my party.

It never was.

He just ran as a republican because that was the only option to get on the ballot.

They didn’t want him then and they don’t want him now.

The gop was never the party of Trump, they fought him every step of the way. If anyone thinks the gop wanted Trump around, they are willfully ignorant.

Their actions of late reaffirm this fact....

Many Republicans will stick with the old party, voting for the so called best of the worst. But many of us are finished being Republican in vote as well as name. To stand for God, family and country is more important than the winning with Rinos seated in Congress.
They may call us Trumpers and that’s okay but we are truly Patriots. We stand with President Trump for our country, not behind him.

They are the party with no base.

People have figured out that voting for Republicans to carry forward the Democrat agenda is pointless.

Although I am reluctant to condone profanity on FR, couldn’t have said it better myself.

Yes. Republican voters overwhelmingly back Trump according to every poll. His favorable ratings with Republican voters remain sky high.

As for Republican politicians - most of the GOP House members joined Trump in challenging the Electoral College vote. In the Senate, people like Cruz, Hawley and Tom Cotton have all been solid backers of Trump.

The Romneys and McConnells get all the press attention - of course they would, the press hates Trump. But most of the GOP is already firmly in Trump's hands. All that remains is to primary the House members who did not back Trump and cleanse the party of the RINOs. Starting a third party might lead to a successful presidential bid, but it would decades, not years, and the person who would be sworn in would not be Trump.

For the first I ever in four years, I feel unsafe and unprotected in this country. I knew no matter what came towards us, DJT had it all under control. I feel like we have been thrown to the wolves.

Dream on. First of all Trump is staying in as a republican, and second, even if he starts a new party, he will be lucky to get 5 million switching away from life long republican and register with 3rd party and contribute heavily, as would be required for any new party.

How much money will you contribute to the Patriot party?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA and you think Trump would have received a welcome in the democrat party?

Trump is not stupid. He knows he could never win on ANY 3rd party. Ask Perot.

Your post is wise.
It will take many years and many dollars to build a third party capable of winning a national election.
