Don’t Raise the Minimum Wage to $15
National Review ^ | 1/15/2021 | Rammesh Ponnuru

The economists found that this led to a 9% reduction in low-wage jobs. The pay increase it generated didn’t make up for the reduction in employment, and earnings fell for low-wage workers overall.

Minimum wage in the wage paid to a position of it’s worth to a particular business. It is set by the business as part of the cost to run that business successfully. Govt needs to butt out. IMHO

This is one of the dopes whose ivory-tower “conservatism” is going to be swept away in the coming months and years.

That would run against its principles.

I think the minimum wage should be $100/hour. $15 is not a living wage. There is no evidence that $15 is a living wage, that's for sure.

Why not make it $50/hr? That’s a living wage.

Knock yourselves out, you dumb asses. You’ve got another 4 years.

Minimum wage: if you can’t produce enough, you’re not allowed to earn at all.

Minimum wage should be $0.00 per hour.

However, there is such a concept as “trainee” wage or “apprentice” wage, a stipend paid to the new hire until such time as the duties can be performed at an acceptable level. The incentive here is to offer a higher level of compensation for growing productivity.

Any real compensation for services rendered has to be based, ultimately, on how much value in terms of productivity the employee delivers to the employer. There is no fixed or absolute algorithm for how much the productivity must be increased to justify the reward of higher wages. but there is a direct correlation between the two.

Just arbitrarily declaring that a fixed minimum wage MUST be paid flies in the fact of a very basic fact of nature - the immature fixture must be allowed to blossom out into the mature form as its capabilities increase. The sprouting seed does not yield the fruit, until it has finished its cycle of growth and development.

The life cycle of plants is the most demonstrative example there is of capitalism in action. The “seed” is planted, it takes the “capital” that is contained in the endosperm of that seed, it extends its supply lines to draw upon the resources available, moisture and mineral content of the soil, and its productivity is measured by how well and how efficiently the growing leafy portions convert the carbon dioxide and moisture into carbohydrates and oxygen, further capitalizing on the recombination of the carbohydrates into growth. When the growth has increased to a sufficient level, the next purpose of the plant is to produce new seeds for the following generation. which repeats the sprouting, growth and maturation all over again.

Even nature recognizes the virtues of stored capital and the fruits of growth.

I agree.

If I was a GOP Congressman I’d be running around today demanding a $50/hour minimum wage and a $20,000 stimulus payment to every U.S. citizen who filed a tax return for 2020.

Yeah unfortunately that’s me. 30 years of productive adult life in one particular field and now I can’t even get a starting job in my industry due to the complete Indian domination of the industry. Being 30 years in an industry means you have very little transferrable skills outside of it.

loss of jobs and employment may well be the very reason for the wage increase. Democrats need cheap labor for their new cross border slaves, and everything they can do to destroy the middle class, they will do.

Here’s an idea, to help the businesses that claim they can’t afford the $50/hour wage. Pay the business the stimulus, so they can pay the worker.

Then the workers who are out of work, THEY get the 20 grand directly.

That will stimulate the economy.

Correct. At least %100 an hour. The poor lady with 6 kids and no husband cannot pay the bills with $15 and hour. How would she be able to afford getting her nails done?

On the other hand a large enough pay increase will kick her off welfare so no free ride anymore.
