If Trump Cares About the Movement He Helped Build, He Should Now Go Away
NewsWeek ^ | 1/8/2021 | Josh Hammer

The ignominious events in the nation's capital on Wednesday, January 6 will not soon be forgotten. Images of an enraged mob overpowering police and breaching the walls of the U.S. Capitol, the West's preeminent citadel of republican self-governance, will hinder Americans' already-cratering faith in their government's institutional integrity and tarnish their belief in American exceptionalism. These are the sort of sordid deeds, and the sort of searing images, that one normally associates with malefactors in a developing nation or a banana republic—not what Abraham Lincoln once called the "last best hope of earth."

Hypocrisy, of course, abounds. It is more than a little rich for partisan Democrats and their sycophantic media mouthpieces to only now condemn anarchic mayhem and the wanton destruction of private and public property, following their systemic refusal to do so amidst last summer's harrowing, months-long Antifa/Black Lives Matter riotous rampage across the nation's urban corridors. As for the "health professional" charlatans who once argued against restricting the "mostly peaceful" protests in the name of the greater "public health crisis" of "systemic racism," they are now silent during an actual crisis of national political health, wherein recent polling suggests nearly 40 percent of Americans doubt the legitimacy of the recent presidential election.

Josh Hammer is a pretty respected conservative—so an important piece, even if I disagree.

how about not using the FBI and CIA to unseat an elected President.....or impeaching a President on partisan lines for political purposes....tearing up State of the Union addresses...breaking into the Supreme Court....tearing down Statues....burning churches....keep attacking half the nation as racist...you reap what you sow...this is far from over. 75 million strong...

Trump should rent a super dome on Jan 20th - no speech - just drive in, get out, wave, say thanks, and it’s not over yet.

I’m wishing 75 million Americans would destroy the media by whatever means it takes.

First step - cut off your cable TV

“Wasn’t Newsweek sold for $1 a few years ago?”

Whoever bought it at that price got took.

Judge not, lest a higher authority Judges you!

I do not believe that storming the Capitol was Trump's intent; nor can I forget the contrived Reichstag fire gambit, by the people who later employed George Soros as a teenager.

Many Americans including many who post here fund the media. They say the cable TV is for their aging dad, as if rotting his brain is a good thing.

The only question is who replaces Trump. There are many good candidates, but.... Trump is a flawed person but a very successful president despite the onslought. It's difficult to imagine anyone else being able to withstand what he withstood.

The media can effectively “disappear” Trump, as Facebook and Twitter now control what he can say online. If he’s made persona non grata by the media, he won’t have much of an audience as they can blackout whatever they want. Maybe outlets like Newsmax and OAN that serve a limited audience, but the major news orgs very likely aren’t going to change how they cover him (as “America’s Enemy”).
He’ll probably need to do some kind of a subscriber-based preach-to-the-converted type setup like Glenn Beck or Hannity to be heard unfiltered.
