CNN’s Jim Acosta: Trump’s Cabinet Members Are Holding Talks of Invoking 25th Amendment

Jim Acosta: Yeah, Chris. And I think there is a lot to analyze about all of this. I’ll try to walk-through it as best as I can. But I’m hearing from a well-placed Republican source there have been preliminary conversations going on inside the cabinet among some cabinet members about invoking the 25th amendment of the Constitution to force the removal of President Trump from office. Now, that is a dramatic step. It’s never been taken before, and it’s something that hasn’t really been contemplated until really today with the events that we saw unfolding up on Capitol Hill. I am told that this talk of using the 25th amendment to force President Trump from office has reached Capitol Hill. There are some Republican senators who have been briefed on this who understand that these discussions are taking place and so word is spreading that this may end up happening. Now, the process is complicated, Chris. The vice president and a majority of the cabinet would have to determine that the president is unable to carry out the duties of his office. The president could contest that and then it would go to the Congress and you would need, I think, a two-thirds vote in each house in the house and the Senate for the president to be removed from office.

I would bet against it.

Not with less than 2 weeks left.

I could be wrong, of course, but Trump already conceded that there will be a smooth transition of power.

The only reason to invoke the 25th amendment at this point is politics. It would be to cater to the “moderates” and the establishment republicans. It’s bad politics though. It would alienate enough of their “tent” that they would never win a majority in anything for years.

Hey acosta——Phu Q! In a cooperative decent manner of course. And any cabinet member that chooses to persue this course of action.

So ANTIFA stages a false flag op and the President can be deposed?

Got it.

Probably fake news but this is definitely a full on coup d’etat. The people really do need to storm the gates. You cannot trust any news coming out of MSM
Period.

The 25th Amendment cannot be used to remove a President against his will. It's intended to address a situation where a President is out of contact or facing a health emergency that incapacitates him.

A simple reading of the language of the 25th Amendment confirms this.

1. A President who is determined to be "incapacitated" under the 25th Amendment is immediately restored to office simply by sending a letter to Congress, telling them he's capable of carrying out his duties.

2. Removing a President under the 25th Amendment against his will requires a two-thirds vote in both Houses of Congress. It's easier to just impeach him in the House -- where a simple majority is needed, and remove him in a Senate vote.

The 25th ammendment has absolutely nothing to do with peaceful transitions. Complete coup and that is not an exaggeration

At this point, the Republican leadership is mostly thinking about their retirement.

Even if they were considering it they would probably decide against it on the calculation that the result would make what you saw yesterday look like child’s play.

13 days left?!? So what is the objective here? Humiliation and injury to any future political runs? Maybe they fear some last minute pardons or orders??

More likely, Acosta is just spreading a narrative created by media and the left.

Qishan Wang could have used a cut out to call Elaine Chao who then told her husband to start talking about the 25th Amendment.

Or ...it could be as simple as smarmy snarky Mcconnell and Romney putting their plan into action to cut Trump off at the knees in a leveraged move.

Jim Acosta is upset that the cabinet members are not talking about tying Trump to a post on the White House lawn and shooting him. That’s Jim’s wet dream!

Elected Republicans (at least most of them) have proven that they really don’t care about the future viability of their party. They’ve decided that committing seppuku and allowing the left total control of the country is more advantageous than preserving it. Piling on requires no courage whatsoever so the cowards pile on hoping their new masters will allow them some crumbs and scraps from the table of power. I’ve never seen Lindsay Graham so pleased. The Republican Party is history yet the party doesn’t care. These last two months have boggled my mind.

I seriously doubt this story, but if it is true there could only be one reason they would do this — to discredit Trump and prevent him from running in 2024. That’s it.

I believe that’s why cabinet members are resigning, and others speaking out. They’re not outraged by what happened yesterday — they just don’t want him running again. They STILL believe Trump has ruined the Republican brand, without realizing they did that themselves LONG ago.

I, for one, and done with ‘em.
