The Latest Netflix Disturbing Trend: Normalizing the "C Word"

Posted on 01/02/2021 12:37:18 PM PST by Political Junkie Too

I've been watching some Netflix Original movies over the Christmas break, and I see a new disturbing trend creeping into their movies.

I know it's been the mission of Netflix to break down taboos in order to make Americans feel uncomfortable, and therefore more compliant, to the Left who keep pushing more and more boorish behavior into the public square.

The latest taboo barrier to desensitize seems to be repeated use of the female "c word" in their movies. It's becoming the new "f word" to express frustration, exasperation, or just plain contempt, in their plot lines. This used to be off-limits in the movies.

Is there no societal shame anymore? Is this how we want the next generation to speak to each other? Is this the kind of self-esteem we want the next generation to feel about themselves, and therefore, about others?

Yes, that was a great scene. I wonder if Colonel Saunders could use it.

I just watched a nice movie about Operation Christmas Drop, the longest-running military humanitarian mission in the South Pacific.

That's on Netflix, too.

“Good as I would like to toss it around more often as it does send a message....”

I don’t understand that post. I’m not criticizing. I just don’t understand it.

The “C word” is commonly used in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and other UK colonies. You’ll hear the C word in a lot of UK movies, and Netflix has a large volume of UK based content. And they are adding more and more. It’s a little worse than “Wanker”, but only here in the USA is it worse than the F-word, and almost never an acceptable insult. In UK and other countries the C word is mostly directed at men by men. In the USA it is almost exclusively directed at women, and has a much more derogatory intent, made worse if uttered by another woman. It’s pretty much a “supercharged” version of Bitch.

Across the pond in the UK, it is used to refer to men as much as women.

What’s the “c” word?

Old English for an arch - found in Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales

I never would have guessed that after 20 years here on Free Republic, my longest posing thread would be about this.

Using ‘bollocks’ in the UK still gets a few looks... over here, it’s just a funny word.

I heard it earlier today while watching The Crown on Netflix. Prince Edward called Prince Andrew the C word because he was being so whiny about his wedding. I was slightly shocked but then thought just what you posted—that it is a much more common British slur said by men to other men.

And be careful when using the word “fanny” around a Brit if you are just intending to talk about someone’s butt.
