Developed as the “big brother” to the Browning M1919 .30 caliber machine gun, the .50 caliber M2 was introduced in 1933 and nearly 90 years later it is still in service around the world
The M2 “Ma Deuce” remains the primary heavy machine gun throughout NATO and has been in conflicts around the world. Weighing in at more than 127 pounds with tripod and T&E (Traverse and Elevation Mechanism), the M2 is truly a “heavy machine gun” in every sense of the word.
But with a muzzle velocity of 2,810 feet per second and an effective range of 2,000 yards and a maximum firing range of 8,100 yards (7,400 meters) it can reach targets like almost no other machine gun on the planet.

Gotta have one.
Machine guns were supposed to make wars too terrible to fight. It can be argued that their invention and wide deployment has correlated with the irreplacable genetic losses that has resulted in the decay and decline of Western culture.
I went shopping for a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range, but they didn’t have any, so I compromised and got an M2 instead.
Carlos Hathcock put a scope on them during Nam and picked off gooks.
A PPG rifle would be great.
MA Deuce.adopted about 90 years ago by US Military.Still in service.
On Guadalcanal it put the paid to the Japanese Butcher’s Bill that attacked a few hundred marines in overwhelming numbers
The Japanese bodies were piled in front of the MA Deuce fields of fire, like cord-wood.
The MA deuce is perhaps the greatest equalizer in battlefields of the modern era, high tech or not. Just evolve a better way to carry the ammo, high tech! We’ll keep the MA deuce!

Maybe if you’re going to leave out the Gatlin Bazooka
He knocked one off a bicycle at 2700 yards.
M2 Sniper rifles?
Remember the Zagros?

Civilian ownership of machine guns was banned in 1986. However, pre-ban weapons were grandfathered in and can still be owned. Fortunately, the Browning M2 has been around for a really long time. To own one, you must find a legal pre-ban M2. Then you must convince the owner to part with it, which usually involved you paying a price in the tens of thousands of dollars.
Then you’ll need to file an application with the ATF and pay the $200 tax stamp. As part of this application, you’ll need to notify your local chief law enforcement officer (sheriff or police chief). It’ll take 6–12 months for the paperwork to clear. And if your individual state hasn’t banned the weapon entirely (bear in mind the above are federal laws and state laws on guns vary between states) you may be able to get one.
Under federal law, illegal ownership of the weapon can lead to a max $100K and 10 years pounding rocks. Individual states set their own punishments.
Lot of money and a whole lot of hoops. Good luck in your search.

So has smog, drunk driving, illegal use of dope, small arms in the hands of idiots, teaching people how to make bombs....you definitely can make an argument. But your differences are for the wrong things. Guns are a tool. They can be good and/or bad. That is determined by who is at the trigger.
Wars are not fought because of the tools. They are fought because people cause it. No weapon in the world is enough to stop the beginning of a war. Even when the US dropped on Hiroshima, they had to do it again at Nagasaki because they didn’t think we could do it. So their lack of fear of what it was forced the issue. Sound like intimidation of the weapon? The weapon didn’t scare them until it was proven it could be done over and over and have enough of an effect. And an automatic weapon is no match for a nuclear device. And I can’t count the times a drone has taken out a sniper with any gun.

40 watts sounds more like pea shooter.
The cost of ammo will kill you.
To an M-2 a house is only concealment, hiding behind
it will not save you.
