Maybe some of my Freeper acquaintances have noticed I have decided to just post items regarding period dramas from the Regency to Edwardian periods. To be totally honest, my psychological back broke weeks ago as I just have enough with the world we live in. My attitude is Let it Burn. So instead of joining a monastery, I decided to just focus on things that bring me joy. One aspect of that is I finally am taking advantage of my Amazon Prime status and am catching up on all the wonderful content available. Being interested in period dramas I have heard of the various versions of "The Railway Children". The version from 2000 is free for Amazon Prime Members so I watched that one. The linkage between all the different adaptations is Jenny Agutter who played Miss Roberta in the earlier versions but now plays the mother role. As with many Generation Xers men, my first encounter with this stunning woman was watching Logan's Run on TV. In this decadent time we live in it is nice reminder that in the past family the traditional family sticking together through hardship was the ideal. One of the greatest scams in the history of mankind is the elite pushing the notion a family can be whatever perverted combination one can conjure up. The scam part is these same elite do not practice what they preach as the nuclear family is now the exclusive purview of the upper Middle Class and higher socioeconomic layers. I am no expert on acting and like but this was such a delight and moving movie. It serves as a perfect anecdote to the dysfunctional families that the media shoves down our throats. What boy and man does not get a thrill to see steam powered trains. My only personal dream before I leave this world is to travel to England on a literary tour and to ride such a vintage train of course doing cos-play as a Victorian gentleman. One thing I did notice was the kind and compassionate Doctor Foster was played by David Bamber. Of course I remember Mr. Bamber from playing the ridiculous and all so funny Mr. Collins from Colin First/Jennifer Ehle version of "Pride and Prejudice". If you want your children to be exposed what a family should truly be, as opposed to the Kardashians and their brood of bastard children, this would make an excellent choice. I would give this on my scale of 1 to 5 bonnets, 4 bonnets.
Is this some sort of version of the Boxcar Children? A Children’s book series?
No it is based on a novel written by Edith Nesbit published in serial form in 1905 as a stand alone work.
I’M doing the same..
I give a 5 to:
Eddington and Einstein
And
The good Liar
Great film. My family and I watched this enduring the lockdown. A couple other obscure films we really enjoyed were “Enchanted April” and “Babbette’s Feast.”

I will make a note of Enchanted April. The cast looks top notch.
Thanks
I guess we’ve all read/watched the same things. I love that I read your post and comments, and as I read I thought, “Oh, Jenny Agutter from Log— yeah! Oh, David Bamber, he was in Pri— yeah! LOL... hm... I wonder if this is like The Boxc— yeah. Oh, no. Okay.”
Also consider North and South, Wives and Daughters, and Cranford if you’re really into wholesome period drama. Avoid Jude the Obscure, though. Incredibly depressing.
I wish we had a like button.
Your freeper made my heart skip a beat...😁
I have watched two out of the three the exception being Wives and Daughters. I have read Jude the Obscure. It is one of the most depressing and bizzare novels I have ever read. Thomas Hardy really went over the precipice. The massive negative reaction to that work ended Hardy’s career as a novelist.
Wives and Daughters is really engaging. The author actually died before finishing it, so they had to tack on their own ending, and you can just tell by watching when it happens, but it's not too obnoxious, and ends happily.
