I have watched two out of the three the exception being Wives and Daughters. I have read Jude the Obscure. It is one of the most depressing and bizzare novels I have ever read. Thomas Hardy really went over the precipice. The massive negative reaction to that work ended Hardy’s career as a novelist.

They made a beautifully-filmed movie of it with Jude Eccleston and a very young Kate Winslet, but yeah. Not fun.

Wives and Daughters is really engaging. The author actually died before finishing it, so they had to tack on their own ending, and you can just tell by watching when it happens, but it's not too obnoxious, and ends happily.
