As the catastrophic state of California’s finances finally begins to set in among politicians, anti-tech media personalities, and far left cultural influencers, the narrative on California’s techxodus — that is, the migration of California’s technology industry out of the state — has shifted from mockery, and “we’ll be better off without you,” to a far more sober, and increasingly-desperate “leaving California is immoral.”

As it is simply too embarrassing for politicians to admit the state needs the technology industry after more than a decade of antagonizing the men and women who built it, and as it is political suicide for incumbent politicians in a one-party state to admit that every one of the problems we’re facing has been created by our elected leaders, a moral argument for tech’s responsibility to California, and specifically the Bay Area, has recently been produced. It goes something like this: young ambitious people moved to the state, and struck gold. But rather than “give back” to the land, they’re leaving with resources they “took” from the region. Like the milkshake guy from There Will Be Blood, sucking oil from the earth. Like the evil army people from Avatar, and their unquenchable thirst for unobtanium. It’s the Substack Billionaire Boy’s Club at it again, but this time with shovels and axes and the exploitative fantasy of eating up all the “low-income” 29 million dollar mansions in Miami Beach.

One of the most popular, early threads on the subject, retweeted by a handful of high-profile tech journalists, began as follows:

Tiffani Ashley Bell

So now these tech firms, led by the worst left wing wackos in the USA are leaving to screw up other States. Great.

The politicians of California have only implemented the ideas that the Commie Tech moguls have demanded.

Typical foolish liberals. Unable to observe the world around them and learn from experience.

And the other states that the tech billionaires move to will welcome them with open arms. Kind of like the frog giving the scorpion a ride on its back.

Idiots.

Democrats own California and everything wrong with it belong to them.

It is as if they do not understand basic economic principles nor understand human nature.

First law of government economic should be the state has no wealth except what they take from the producers.

Every rule, law, regulation, obstruction they put in the way of commerce cuts down the revenue flow to the government. When the government makes it impossible to run a business at a profit, the business either closes are leaves the state.

First rule of human nature is what you reward you get more of and what you punish you get less of.

The state has been rewarding the non-producers for years allowing them to run wild in the street and so there are more and more moving into the state.

As mentioned above, the state has been punishing the producers and they are leaving.

Without commerce there is no transactions to tax and no money flowing to the government.

The end result is that with less money the state has to make choices...the problem for states like California is they locked in the outgo by contract or in the case of education the state constitution. They have very little wiggle room so their only recourse is to raise taxes which will cause more people to leave the state.

There are solutions to California’s problem but Democrats are incapable of applying those solutions.

From the article: “The truth is, had tech workers actually assumed a significant measure of political influence, and led in local politics, San Francisco would today be one of the greatest cities in the world.”

Lol. What crap. California tech industries have purged all but leftwing nutcases from their ranks. Having these eggheads run things would make it somehow worse.

“Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as "bad luck.”

- Robert Heinlein

California seems to be having a lot of bad luck lately.

And how is the state going to support all the generous social welfare programs and public sector pensions when it is broke?

Silicon Valley is the new Flint Michigan, how about that. In this case they invented their own demise, the ability to work remotely.

California is an overseas colony of China. Newsome dances to Beijing’s tune.

Yup. Colorado went down the tubes 10 years ago. Bumper sticker: “At Least the Texans Went Home After Ski Season”.

Even fewer and fewer films are made in California. I would guess half the TV shows and movies are now made in Canada.

If liberals have enough numbers to move to every state and change it blue, then the vast majority of Americans are liberals.

So, this idea is BS.
