Visitors are typically curious about the differences between the Amish way of living and ours – things like not using electricity or traveling by horse & buggy or scooter rather than cars. This time of year, that curiosity turns to the Christmas holidays, and wondering how the Amish celebrate Christmas. Do they give each other presents? Do they have a big holiday meal?

To help you understand how the Amish celebrate Christmas, we talked to a local culture expert, Brad Igou of the Amish Experience.

one of my favorite election clips is the amish buggies trotting with huge Trump flags with the rapper singing in the background “donald trump is pres-i-dent whether you like it or not”

I’m one of the lucky neighbors who is invited to the local Amish Christmas program in the one room schoolhouse near us. It is a very very sweet special event ! The program consists of each kid reciting a poem, groups singing their carols - (these are often the same one we are used to but with a blue-grass cadence), and the highlight is a skit put on by the older kids (7th-8th graders) usually enacting some funny drama in an Amish family.

Sadly, that was my first thought, too.

Christmas card making is a very popular tradition – adults & children make handmade “stamped” Christmas cards – some of them are now even sold in Amish stores.

Speaking of "stamping"..

“things like not using electricity”

Ha ha They all have gas powered generators though. Every one.

My wife is horse vet with many Amish clients. When she says she need electricity to run the ultrasound or portable x ray machine, out comes the generator from the barn.

Nearly all now have cell phones.

...They all have gas powered generators though. Every one...

The rules of all groups don't always seem to make sense. It seems arbitrary that a young fellow, 15 years and 364 days can't get a driver's license, but can the next day.

The electricity thing is mainly about being hard attached to the grid.

How do the Amish Celebrate Christmas? Around my area they (Amish) cash in by duping the English into buying their “authentic” goods shipped in from their Chinese sect.

Last weak I saw an Amish man loading a cart up at Sam’s (Sam’s has big carts) with as many boxes of muffins and other baked goods he could fit in it. No doubt these products were headed to an authentic Amish roadside stand.

Q: What is "clip-clop, clip-clop, clip-clop, BANG BANG, clip-clop, clip-clop"?

A: An Amish drive-by shooting.

It appears that Amish is not a single religion but a blend of different sects whose beliefs vary greatly. I personally don’t think they are Christians!!!

For the most part yes....Mormans are different in that the leadership discourages the members from actually reading the Bible!!!
