GOP Sen. Ron Johnson (Wis.) on Friday blocked an effort to pass a second round of stimulus checks, arguing coronavirus relief needs to be targeted and raising concerns about the country's debt.
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) tried to get consent, which requires the cooperation of every senator, to pass his bill that would provide $1,200 for individuals who make up to $75,000 — the exact same language that Congress passed as part of the CARES Act in March.
"What I'm proposing is what every senator has supported already, this year. ... What I'm proposing will give working folks in my state and across this country a shot ... at getting back up on their feet," Hawley said from the Senate floor.

For sure the two new Georgia communists that will likely be SELECTED will up the $1200 that Johnson objects to to $5000 (+/-). The Stupid Party rides again!
Misleading headline.
There is no reason why many people should get checks. Those who are retired, on social security disability, government workers including public school teachers are not losing pay checks or being laid off. To many it is just a windfall of government largess.
The benefit should be for those in the private sector who are actually being effected by the government actions. The unemployed, the workers who have had hours & income effected.
This would allow for a higher payment directed at those who are in actual economic need.
Future generations are already forever screwed and they don’t care. Time to stop worrying about this stuff and take what we can get.
Split ordinary people away from the Dems. But that's too intelligent.
It's a shell game. We've been playing with red and black columns since the dawn of time. The side that wants something never mentions the debt. It's only when the other side wants something do they speak of concern for the debt.
The only way future generations will not be saddled with the debt is to ensure they are not saddled with corrupt politicians. Ain't going to happen.
FReepers never seem to consider the source.
I’m sure the $1200 is the only item in this bill. /s
Put people back to full employment. That is the stimulus right there! This entire China Virus debacle needs to end.
I understand PPP has handled by Blackrock. Breitbart had good piece on Larry Fink there. I think these loans will be used for influence.
Put people back to full employment. That is the stimulus right there! This entire China Virus debacle needs to end.
It is stupid to try to get people to go to stores to spend money when it is said to be unsafe to have family gatherings.
They don’t care about debt.
Sooo, they want to take $1200 from me and give it to someone else?
Should I maybe endeavor to earn less than $75000?
It might be best to simply give people an Amazon credit rather than a check.
I wouldn’t mind giving the money to unemployed workers BUT for crying out loud I got a check and am retired my mom got a check and she has been retired for 20 years this virus did NOT affect our income in anyway!!! My 401k earnings did not even go down in anyway!! SO giving this money to EVERY living breathing person is just ridiculous!!{
That $1200 only serves to place future generations in debt.
____
When we “print” money by just electronically creating it, who do we owe for it? Where does this debt get paid? The USA owes the Treasury? This is the dirty little secret in DC; the chickens only come home when the USA currency isn’t the world leader.
Now Senator Johnson is concerned about the debt? After 4 f’ing years he is worried about a lousy 1200 bucks, what a smuck!
I’ll bet he isn’t concerned about being in the minority soon, is he?
The part that I find amazing is how the lawmakers views on this “check” completely changed the day after the election.
You’re a mean one, Sen. Johnson
The Dems have been blocking the money for 6 months- without a peep from the media.
I believe Johnson will support the $600 figure that will pass (unless the Dems block that too).
Of course he won’t get a write-up for that in The Hill LOL!
It’s a shame, but people’s incomes were taken by the government.
