State Farm cancelled my insurance on Dec 4. We got the notice this week. We suffered a fire and after dragging it our for 4 months, construction finally begun.
House is completely gutted for rebuilding and maybe 20% complete after 6 months. Their reason for cancellation is "messy" yard WHILE UNDER CONSTRUCTION.
Anyone ever experience anything like this and what can I do? What insurance company is going to insure me now with incomplete house under cnstruction.
Check with your state insurance board. Such action may be illegal in your state.
I’ve not been impressed by the State Form stories I’ve heard from here. They appear to have the morals of a Clintin/Dorkbama/Biden.
Call a lawyer.
They think you won’t, and if you go away then their job is done.
If that's no help, call your local media.
No company, especially an insurance company, wants negative media.
farmers cancelled mine this year after a fire.
paid 30k for the damage and I just switched to USAA.
all online. If your not a vet I’m sure anybody else will take it.
Insurance companies are in the business to make money. They are really not in the business of giving money. I expect one big expense to be paid by insurance and then to be dropped. So, I am preparing to self-insure.
Just my 2 cents.

If you are a veteran might I suggest USAA?
Are you eligible for USAA? Sue State Farm and go with USAA at your first opportunity.
I had State Farm once around 1978-1979. The stereo was stolen out of my Jeep. The adjuster said “Well, what did you expect? You aren’t supposed to have a stereo in your Jeep.” They had done a lot of damage getting it out, so the total cost of repair was way more than the deductible.
I left State Farm right then and there and never went back.
Just look around online.
They took mine over including the escrow pay with the mortgage company.
I didn’t have to do much.
I had two months notice.
They should finish fixing your home, but not renew it.
State Farm is a ripoff anyway.
Blessing in disguise.
“House is completely gutted for rebuilding and maybe 20% complete after 6 months. Their reason for cancellation is “messy” yard WHILE UNDER CONSTRUCTION.”
20% completed after six months! I really doubt they cancelled for a messy yard
A few decades ago MFA Insurance did the same thing to somebody.
They went to the media and destroyed their reputation.
That’s why they changed their name to Shelter Insurance.
If you do’t get any real answers from State Farm, you can always file a department of insurance complaint.
They are required to respond.
“They should finish fixing your home, but not renew it.”
The homeowner, not the insurance company is responsible for fixing the home.
I don’t think we are getting the full story.
WHO is constructing the house?
like life...sometimes its good to know your “partners” you pay money to...Insurance is a bet that you hope to hell you lose on...
My home got vandalized and robbed in New Orleans in the 1980’s. State Farm gave me a check to cover repairs and cancelled when my policy “year” was up. I had State Farm. Don’t recall who I went to next but it did involve calling and shopping around frantically during the 30 day window of notification. Online will make it easier.
