The Cleveland Indians shocked their fans by announcing the historic team will be changing its name. Fans of the 105-year-old team have been loyal through times of heartache when losing seasons were all that were on the horizon.
Fans Outrage Over Cleveland Indians Name Change
That loyalty was crushed as fans took to social media to express their outrage. Some fans called the move a betrayal while others stated they will never attend games after a name change.

Didn't you hear? They are changing their name also. The furries were offended.
Did the Redskins ever decide on a new name?
Yet they were not similarly outraged when the Redskins lost their identity...
What’s that old expression:
“First they came for the ......., then .......”
Today it is raining and to celebrate I am going to be wearing my very expensive, 30-year-old Redskins rain coat as the wife & I go Christmas shopping...
Frack the communist bastards...
This is a real shame professional sports has capitulated to the ‘woke’ crowd like they have.
It is not offensive to the native American, no tribe has ever voiced a concern, and there is every reason to believe being the mascot of a team is an honor (which it is).
Baseball, like football, has become unwatchable anyway. Too many homeruns, not enough strategy (base hits, bunts, steals, etc). Pitchers only go a few innings before calling for a reliever, whereas they used to (and should) go 8 or 9 innings.
Maybe MLB can get the Red Chinese to adopt baseball.
It worked for the NBA and basketball.
I thought maybe they could just trade names with the NFL team in Washington....
It would be so trendy just to name yourself “The Baseball Team”. So non-offensive. And what about the name “Cleveland”? Any red or white skin associated with that? Perhaps it should change too.
Steamers.
Good point.
Political-correxit.
Fifty some years ago, a native baseball team in the Chilcotin area of B.C. called themselves the “Wagon Burners”.
Unlike white lefties, natives have a sense of humour.
Way back in the mid-90’s, we had an article in our local paper’s editorial page, when we actually had a local paper, that essentially predicted this situation.
Then it was PETA being ‘offended’ at animal names for sports teams.
The editorial, with tongue-in-cheek seriousness, said get ready for team names like, “The Fighting Mineral Salts!”..................
My personal choice would be the "Cleveland Fellers".
I’ll bet you a dollar that few Native Americans really care about this. Some Social Justice Warrior is behind it all.
Side story: A high school near me had an Indian as its symbol. The Indian was in full headdress and looked very noble. It looked something like this.
Well, one person complained (yep, just one). And she wasn’t even a Native American. All hell broke loose. The school’s symbol was immediately changed. No more Indians. New school shirts were ordered. New school letterheads were ordered, etc.
All because of one silly, childish complaint.
The Redskins used to be a Boston Team (as were the Braves). Their coach was a native American, and the name was selected to honor him. Weird.
The association of sports teams with Indians is meant as a tribute to the perceived skill and athleticism of the native Americans, and most of them did and still do take it that way.
Screw activist killjoys.
So what arethey changing the name to? Cleveland Spiders? They had such a great season in 1899, didn't they?
How about the Cleveland Grovers and use the Sesame Street character as the mascot?
Not yet.................
Maybe not even next year.............
Adios to Chief Wahoo’s and the name Indians removal. I guess I’ll stick to Roller Derby as my main sport. The “CLEVELAND BASEBALL TEAM” can go to hell.
