My NextDoor.Com neighborhood site was all abuzz with the news that this man was seen in Whole Foods without a mask. Pending formal police action or indictment, I have partially concealed his appearance. As a registered Republican of advanced age, I follow rules and laws even if I regard them as misguided, gratuitous, or even stupid. Civil disobedience should be reserved for matters of clear moral import. Therefore, I don’t condone this scofflaw upsetting people in this needless and trivial fashion. Nevertheless, I can’t bring myself to get offended or get all that upset. But for many, this incident was a deeply serious offense. Here is just a sample of the numerous comments:
Sad. Store employees are risking their lives and they have to work because they have to live. Some ppl are just that selfish. This makes me very sad.
I believe there is either a county or state ordinance requiring masks in public. Therefore, the police should be called to enforce the rule.
Call the police! It starts with them!!! Don’t talk to anyone like this guy just get the authorities involved. No just don’t understand how people like him process their belief system and thoughts about community. This is not a political issue it’s all about us coming together right??
Once again, it’s not about his choice for his body, it’s about all the people he’s potentially infecting. Individual rights don’t count when community health is at risk. Yes, he should be hauled out by the authorities. So angering.
It reminds me of the guy smoking outside of ____ yesterday, and blowing his SARS-CoV2 virus all over everyone walking by.....
The emotional and personal investment in a policy that has not worked very well along with a distorted perception of risk is both fascinating and frightening....

Is this article parody? Sad to say, I have trouble telling satire from frothing liberal madness these days.
BTW, I have a report on my experimentation with making masks with slogans and here are some tips:
Do not bother with fabric paint markers or fabric paint, unless you have a really stead hand and a lot of patience.
Do not get fabric masks with folds— too hard to work with.
My local Walmart had packs of 3 black (and also white) T-shirt material masks without folds for 3 bucks. I almost didn’t see them. They on a shelf of a “semi aisle” that instead of having a shelf on the opposite side had the start of the cash register section. Half of the “aisle” had hand sanitizer.
Iron on decals/letters that can be found in the fabric / T shirt making section of JoAnn’s, Hobby Lobby, etc. worked pretty damn well on these masks.
I find that most of the mask scofflaws like me are middle-aged and older white guys, with some younger black and Hispanic guys mixed in.
I am of the mind that there has to be visible pushback. So others who comply with this unjust order but don’t buy into the efficacy of masking see they are not alone.

They used to call these people “Tories”.
What slogans are you putting on your mask? I was thinking “Training Burqa.”
I am too much of a coward to not wear a mask, but I always leave my nose exposed so I can breathe. Nobody has ever said anything.
Anytime someone tries to justify an action using phrases like “We’re all in this together” or “We’re stronger apart”, you should automatically recognize that they’re shovelling horse apples.
My first response to people that say anything about me not wearing a mask is:
I don’t watch TV

Nextdoor will ‘moderate’ anything anti-mask, anti-lockdown. My experience with that website is that the discussion moderators are all Karens, or like that next door neighbor from Bewitched.
see, that's the problem. People have been so brainwashed they automatically assume that if someone isn't wearing a mask, they are infecting others.
But over 9 million people have recovered from CCPvirus, meaning they aren't liable to infect anyone. Why should those 9 million have to wear a mask? To appease the hysterical?
Geez Louise.
I wear a mask all the time in public. I don’t like it, but I wear it.
Probably a good thing. The missus and I were diagnosed with COVID today. The preponderance of data suggests that the mask mitigates spread of infection. WE were nailed by an elderly friend who visits our house all the time. She doesn’t wear a mask in our house, nor did we expect her to.
Now: just stop. Play by the rules. It’s a goddam mask. No one is asking you to spend the night in an Iron Maiden or undergo castration. The rabid anti maskers make the rest of us look stupid. Don’t make it a political issue.
If they come for my guns, that’s another issue.
“But if they can make you wear a mask, they can send you to concentration camps...” No. Just stop it.
From what I’ve observed in our area over the last nine months, nearly all the people who become unhinged at others not wearing masks are women.
Most of them have probably never done anything noteworthy in their entire, miserable existence, and they now have the opportunity to take that aggravation out on others. They truly enjoy their self-declared role of ‘mask police’.
LOL.... I am part of the 1st group you mentioned..... I live in New York City and don’t wear a mask on the Subway..... I’ve noticed that the few people I see also going maskless are Black and Hispanic young men
It’s not parody. I am in nextdoor.com just to keep up with what’s in my area and have seen similiar comments.
I agree with you. That is why I have been advocating protest masks— one is complying but sending a message.
With one sheet of the iron-on letters, I was able to make:
2 masks with “Plandemic”
2 with “Wake Up”
1 with “My Muzzle”
1 with “So So Dumb” (Ironically, given the other words and letters they took to make, I found myself with a lot of surplus S’s and O’s.)
1 with “In the Matrix”
I could have also made “F*ck This Sh*t” with the actual vowels, but the person who was helping me refused to help me make this. Depending on the particular sheets you obtain, they might come with symbols, but my sheet only had letters.
I had to bastardize some letters, such as cut parts of an “R” to make a “P” and a “B” to make an “E,” but it worked.
Experiences will vary based on the particular package of letters obtained.
The one I got cost $3.99, I think, or close to it, but I ended up getting coupons at checkout for future purchases If I had bothered to check out one of the other craft chains, they might have had a sale going on on their fabric crafting stuff and perhaps a better selection.
I’ve tried, but can’t wear one more than a few minutes. I have a physical disability that causes shortness of breath and wearing one just brings it on faster and worse. Mask mandate in this state allows exception for medical or conditions that cause trouble breathing, but the karen hardliners still try to become self appointed mask police and have to be told to F*k off a lot.
I got kicked off my local Nextdoor for trying to point out COVID-19 facts rather than the propaganda being spread by the media.
Your right if your not hoeing the party line comrade your gone. I kind of miss it for other things that are going on in my community but I am banned.
