This is incredible. The Scottish government has brought forth a new hate crimes law that stands to criminalize speech uttered within the privacy of ones own home. I kid you not:
However critics fear the Hate Crime and Public Order Bill, which centres around plans for a new offence of stirring up hatred, will stifle freedom of expression.
BBC Scotland, Catholic bishops, the Humanist Society of Scotland, and the Scottish Police Federation are amongst those to have raised concerns, along with Mr Bean star Rowan Atkinson and writer Val McDermid.
Because of this, Mr Yousaf was forced to amend the legislation and change the controversial stirring up offences section which has been condemned by opponents.
It now means stirring up offences would be limited to intent relating to age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, transgender identity and variations in sex characteristics and therefore prosecutions could only be brought in this respect.
During todays session, Glasgow Tory MSP and Committee Convenor Adam Tomkins questioned the Scottish Justice Secretary [Hamza Yousaf] on how you can commit an offence of public order in private.

Right out of the Iron Curtain.
I am assuming Her Majesty given she is Queen of Scotland needs to give royal assent. I know it will not happen but she should refuse on account of the suppression of freedom of speech, and freedom to petition the government.
The national song should be changed to “Scotland the Slave.”
Scotland has come a long way down since Bonnie Prince Charlie and Culloden in much the same fashion as we have since George Washington and the Revolutionary War.

I agree with all parts of that statement. And out of curiosity I looked it up. From Wikipedia:
The last bill that was refused assent by the Sovereign was the Scottish Militia Bill during Queen Anne’s reign in 1708.
I believe that speaking of any sacred texts of any religion would be found to be covered here as they claim exclusivity on 'salvation' which will be 'insulting' to others!
1984 occurring. George Orwell would be appalled that he was so prescient with his writings. And in his own country as Scotland is part of Great Britain.
The national anthem is Flower of Scotland.
The concept of PC and authorities reading our minds is so dangerous and counter to freedom that it needs to be outlawed. The concept wherever it originates is about oppression without justice.
Citizens would then be wise to eliminate all Wi-Fi devices from their home. From your phone, refrigerator to Alexa to cable remotes etc all have capability to “listen in” and report. It is truly an outrageous threat. Most people are clueless. Those that push this hate speech garbage, and there is a common thread if you look, want unilateral power.
Sure is.
This is not good.
“Scottish Justice Secretary [Hamza Yousaf]”
Hamza Yousaf - definitely a Scottish name!
Must be really, really bad.
Yousaf wears his tartan around his Islamist dome, whereas Scots wear theirs around their arses.
