Do any of our fellow Freepers play strategy board games? My brother taught me to play Alexander when I was 12 and I've been playing games ever since.
I mostly like Avalon Hill Games but also have some by GMT and SPI.
It's also possible to play these via email and online through various platforms.
Ha! I watched that last night on YouTube. Sorry!
Somebody did mention GO. sorry I missed your entry on the first scan. Yeah, I see online.go.com??? Haven’t played in a long time but still marvel at its depth.
I had MBT! Played that in college with some friends. I so much miss spending Sunday afternoons with friends and military games or Dungeons & Dragons. If only it wasn’t for work, family, and home maintenance...
Joe Biden and I play Candyland and Chutes and Ladders together all the time. The Big Guy, as he likes to be called, finds them very challenging.
Thanks.
Does Candyland and Chutes and Ladders count?
Funny funny stuff.
That's why I love this place...lol
No. But I have bought the board game “Election Night,” for my Commie Sister’s sons. They may be being raised Commie, but I want them to understand the electoral college.
Bkmk
Played Avalon Hill Afrika Corp. There was a Stalingrad board game but I don’t remember if it was Avalon Hill or not. I think we may have played Blitzkrieg too.
These were my cousins games and he was pretty good at them.
Chess, Risk... my nephew used to say “anyone for a quick game of Risk?” Of course he was joking.
Is that the version where when the Left loses they just flip the board knocking off all the pieces? :)
I’ve been playing strategy games since high school. I cut my teeth on AH Third Reich. Today I have about 30 games, many of them by GMT. My son and I greatly enjoy “For the People” and “Twilight Struggle”. I also use “Diplomacy” and “Twilight Struggle” in my classes and have created a History Studies Group to introduce students to the hobby. I know there are services you can use to play the games like VASSAL but I haven’t learned them yet. Would love to be included if there is any interest in setting up a pinglist for gamers.
That’s what my beloved husband does, saying he will play the magazine, before passing!
I’ve only used Vassal for Third Reich and Guns of August so far.
Here’s the latest site for Third Reich.

It’s pretty good but there’s a lot of email back and forth to play a turn.
Probably will be. My Sister, Brother-in-law, and nephews are all Biden supporters.
Squad Leader, Panzerblitz, Traveller series, Fortress Europa, Star Fleet Battles, the list is endless.
Star fleet Battles since the pocket edition. Federation and Empire. Babylon 5 Wars
Any war game that involves complicated rules sounds like it should be called “Contradiction In Terms”.
My favorite board games are
Carcassonne, Catan and Ticket to Ride.
