Do any of our fellow Freepers play strategy board games? My brother taught me to play Alexander when I was 12 and I've been playing games ever since.
I mostly like Avalon Hill Games but also have some by GMT and SPI.
It's also possible to play these via email and online through various platforms.

My all-time favorite is Advanced Third Reich by Avalon Hill. It can be combined with Empire of the Rising Sun for a Global War!

I played Diplomacy, Risk, Dungeons and Dragons, and our own made-up war game with hex paper on a 6x4 foot piece of cardboard. All in high school 48 years ago.

Acquire and Rail Baron are absorbing. And they only take 90 minutes to 2 hours.

My all-time favorite is Advanced Third Reich by Avalon Hill.
Wasn't "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" advanced enough? 90 pages of 8 1/2" x 11" instructions in 6 point type.

Diplomacy is the ultimate game if one is into back stabbing treachery. :)

Chess, Risk, used to be a DM back in the day.
Still play chess. Taught my kids how to play.

Pandemic is our favorite game, even though it is a real life issue right now...One of the few table games in which players play as a team against the game....we like the Spain/Portugal version.

I played Avalon Hill and SPI games as a boy, but very seldom in later years.
