The crater just keeps getting bigger. The big sink hole in Pasco County just keeps growing, expanding and collapsing.
The depression in New Port Richey, Florida continues to expand at a rapid rate, very unusual for geologists.
The hole opened on Monday at a few-feet deep but has grown to 50 75 feet deep and more than 30 feet wide!
The speed of it opening and the speed of it still spreading, that makes it unusual, said Emergency Management Director Andrew Fossa.
Nearby, The Varsity Club has been evacuated and shut down. County crews erected a fence around the depression Wednesday night to protect the public.
2 geologists will be out in the area tomorrow morning to determine whats going to happen with the deep crater.
Meanwhile, emergency crews still hear water gurgling at the bottom of the sinkhole, which means it might not stop growing anytime soon.
Yes, simply amazing. I wish we’d known about it when we lived in Florida, I would have liked to see it!
The high water table is what caused Disneyworld to build their basements at ground level. And the parks immediately above. Anytime you’re in a Disneyworld park, you’re on the second floor.

“This is inland. At least 10 miles away from the shore.”

Best laugh Ive had in a long time. Thanks
I dont think its that far inland. Our winter home is in Hudson, which is just north of NPR.
That area has exploded over the past few years. First Fl-50 through Brooksville, then 54/56 over in Wesley Chapel and now 52 through Hudson. Construction everywhere.
Sinkholes, assholes.
Florida has all kinds of holes.
Full time resident of new port richey 30 plus years here.
Well... 100-years of allowing NY retirees to repopulate the state has come home to roost...
Like Guam, FL is definitely in danger of tipping over...
A tunnel created in China in order to invade Florida?
I have flown over Florida many times, there are lots of sink holes/ponds
Many Many

Do how the Sparts did it, fill it up with @ssholes, liberals and Democraps....., and yes I know they are all one in the same.
This is surprising? There is an average of 6500 insurance claims for sink holes in Florida yearly.
Cover-collapse sinkholes occur where the covering sediments contain a significant amount of clay. Over time, the cavity breaches the ground surface and causes a sudden collapse.

Exactly. There’s a sizable sinkhole from 1981 in Winter Park now called Lake Rose after the woman whose house disappeared into it.
Have family off 52. Been coming to the area since you had to go through downtown Brooksville to get to 19.
See the sinkhole is at Little Rd. at 54. Were off Little near NewYork. Getting a little close for comfort
I’m a diver. Sinkholes are some of the coolest places to dive. I even tried to get a RE agent to find me one to buy.
No schist, that was a gneiss pun.
me too- was down there for college for a bit- wish I’d known of it then- bet it’s pretty cool to see- such an amazing story behind it
Hi.
If the Varsity Club still exist after this sink hole, and you live near NPR, go and have a beer, wings and fried gator tail.
